  2. Sooty As you say mate alot of R&B stuff was huge in the 90s A.C Reed Gerri Hall Patience Valentine Big Daddy Rogers Etta James Joe Tex Charles Sheffield Lee rogers Bud Harper--Wherever you were----This was a Stafford anthem along with this all time fave from my record box https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL-eAJhj67Q
  3. Thats a Cock on reflection of it all Martyn. The R&B style Northern is very subjective.I have heard people state that certain records are not R&B when to my ears they clearly are. A lot of the oldies fans dont like to hear early classics such as Mickie Champion refered to as R&B but they are quite happy to label the later Stafford and 80s/90s stuff as R&B.But as you say what WORKS is What counts.
  4. Hi Guys NOW SOLD SOLD SOLD THANKS Here is A pack of 4 nice classic original label oldies all in at least VG+ condition Priced to clear at £20 inc post first class recorded Cheque or conceled recorded delivery cash only NO PAYPAL PM TO SECURE Patto
  5. So many influences have played a role in making up the sounds we accept as NORTHERN SOUL. R&B is just one facet..Records are described as Latin based,Motownesque,Funk egged,Philly sound,White Pop,Modern soul.etc etc.Basically its a broad church and it all has its place.Personally i love the element of hard edged R&B,and to me something like Jimmy Robins and Mickie Champion are perfect Northern Soul.I have never liked the tame pop influenced stuff much.So for me the R&B puts the NORTHERN into SOUL
  6. Still looking for this long time want anyone. Willing to pay £50 for a Demo or £70 for an original Issue Thanks Patto

  8. ANOTHER RECORD ON THE BRAIN This is another Stafford record played i think by Keb Darge that has a realy catchy hook lyric that WORMHOLES into your mind. I bought it years ago.for a while i had it framed up for my daughter as the label JESSICA is her name and the title conveyed the message that the sky is the limit if you want to reach for them. HOW HIGH CAN YOU FLY---WILLIE SMALL----JESSICA Listen to it a couple of times and i guarantee you will be singing it tomorrow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf54U67zOMg
  9. Sooty I would have loved to have seen your spot on sunday as Kellingly is not too far for me but i'm off to Stoke nighter Saturday.Back in the day i would have been able to do the nighter and still get to the sunday dayer. Not been in great health of late so just getting through Stoke will leave me in bed all day sunday to recover for work Monday. But i'm sure you will be fine, just play the tunes you believe in mixed in with a couple of well known oldies. The thing about an all dayer is you can be a bit more upfront with your spot and play summat different. Think you will notice a big change in the scene musically and people wise, but if you can inject a bit of the 90s back into the old lady then i think you will be welcomed with open arms. Keep me posted on any future DJ spots you do and i'll try my best to catch one
  10. Hey Sooty thats a nice tune mate and a new one on me.By the way the (Fox In A Mini Skirt) record also exists on the same label as an instrumental by The Castle Band, which was played a few times at the Stafford nighters in the 80s,but i prefere the vocal Patto
  11. Hi Guys Bought this record recently and cant stop singing it all over the place which often gets a few glances when you sing A FOX IN A MINI SKIRT while walking through the shopping center. Patto https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpdIWIn2CAc
  12. Dear Fluffy Cotton Wool Fancier Just carry on doing what gives you the most pleasure. However don't you get bored looking at the same clouds day in day out. Those obscure grey and darker clouds are full of energy atmosphere, and when the rain comes they leave you refreshed Marge
  13. Thats exactly how i see it also Kev.The scene in my opinion was at its most COOL,most UNDERGROUND,and most ENJOYABLE during the so called wilderness years of mid 80s through the 90s up to the early millenium.Loads of characters around, great accross the board sounds, and venues with an edge and a goose bump atmosphere.1980s Clifton Hall,Stafford, early 90s Keele,Manchester Ritz,Cleethorpes Winter Gardens.During this period even the local soul nights were great.Bring back the WILDERNESS
  14. Yeh and Pete is one of the best a great soul man who realy GETS IT
  15. Nice one Sooty respect where respects due mate not kissing arse just loved most of your posts, Like i said CHARACTERS needed
  16. Sooty I remember seeing you around mid to late 90s but never got the chance to talk.Let me just say your posts have injected real entertainment to the site. Most of em you have to read through the crazyness a few times but the main points you make are sound. The main thing wrong with this scene at the moment is that the characters like yourself are very thin on the ground. The great nights of the past were made great by an important mixture of great music and great characters. The music is still the same but the scary corner people have mostly gone.I used to travel as much to be around those people as i did to dance.Nowadays it all seems so commercialised the magic essence seems to have waned.I hope the kids in the programme forge their own scene with their own identity and i hope some of them are characters because thats what it will need to break free of the corporate industry it has become.Keep posting mate i need the misery slapping out of me as much as Len. Patto
  17. Its a real minefield Jim. The only answer realy is to know who the promoters of the event are and find out the DJ rosta of the event. Then you will have a good idea of whats going to be on the Decks.
  18. Sooty Its the same situation with the MELBA MOORE --MAGIC TOUCH. I have seen Djs play all the 3 Kent/Horaces/100 club ANN releases.Personally i have the Horaces one which was done same year as the 100 club promo.I know some attach more cudos to the first one 100 club but if thetune was previously unissued as with Carla Thomas then i think any legit copy would be ok to play out by the way nice stuff with Ethan Sooty good Man
  19. Loved hearing the Searling interview.A very articulate man who came accross very well.
  20. Don't realy agree with this. There are literally thousands of great records out there that are either not well known ,unerplayed, or just plain forgotten.A lot of these records are as good and in most cases better than the worn out oldies played week in week out.Just look at the old Stafford, Clfton Hall, and other 80s venue playlists teaming with quality tunes that most punters have never heard played out.The trick is to get the punters into a mind set that accepts and dances to these records, If not the whole thing stagnates in such a way that we are seeing now.
  21. Now that is a fantastic post
  22. Over the years i have been in the same position several times.Sometimes a break of a few months can work wonders. Then you go back to a new venue or an old familiar one and have a great night and the Mojo comes flooding back.Me and the Mrs not in top health at the moment and our nights out have been few and far between this year so i'm dying to get back out when i get fit. The scene has survived many influxes of tourists and it will recover. Its realy in the hands of the younger element like yourself to stand up and direct things the way you want it and not let it turn into a tragic teddy boy style car crash
