I seem to remember the Weinroth family having some kind of paper manufacturing business? Still have the correspondence from Irving Weinroth when dealt with for the Inferno singles. Irving could not find the tape for the instrumental of "I'm Not Strong Enough" and instead sent a tape of a horrible track "The Funky Donkey". Ed Balbier who owned Global; and the Cream label had a go at us and said we had no rights to release The Four Perfections and The Showstoppers. Mr Weinroth sent him the most incredible blistering cease and desist telegram telling him we did have the rights and the Cream deal had expired. We released The Showstoppers "Gotta Get Closer To My Love" for the first time which everyone tells me must be hard to obtain now,, but as it was on flip to "Ain't Nothing But A Houseparty" which sold 7,000, not exactly hard to find I would have thought!

Just read this. Very sad news. He was very good company. I spent some time with him years ago ago and he was commenting on the Northern scene and for some reason that escapes me about Simon Soussan's book. . Henry said that he threw away 100's of acetates from Motown. A lot of them were of unreleased tracks. He said that Motown fed him stuff all the time because as well as being their distributor for Florida he "took a chance" and also supplied other States/areas which he was not supposed to ship into. As a result he sold a lot of Motown records and said he was sent acetates all the time. |

I went through a lot of Drew records with the guy who owns the label 2 years ago near Detroit. No Drew sleeves. But as he sold me a "Sugar Ain't Sweet" some years before I was more interested in another copy than some sleeves.

The often overlooked release on Inferno from the Irving Weinroth connection is "Got To Get Closer To My Love" by The Showstoppers which we put out as the b side to "Ain't Nothing But A Houseparty"...it was first worldwide released of GTGCTML and Rick Cooper and Francis Tee were the ones who tipped of us and I think supplied a tape or disc to dub from. Sold over 6,000, which isn't bad for such an obscure record, with sales being down to "Ain't Nothing But A Houseparty". Neil
