If Ady's not available buy one of those 'Dancing Gophers' dolls because they dance EXACTLY like the Big Man !!! I placed one next to him at the Dome some time ago and it was spokky I tell ya. LOL.

Dancing Comps
We had a dance comp at the Plinston anniversary last year (and plan to do so this year) but agree that in the end the standard isn't like the old days however we feel that we have levelled the playing field somewhat by the introduction of our selected toons to dance to. Last years was the Latin Soul version of 'I watched you slowly slip away' by Al Escobar & His Swinging Camels (if memory serves) which had most of the Hall in stitches and the dancers in total confusion. This years is a gem - be afraid! Besides, tradiations should be kept alive but maybe tweaked a bit :-))))))

Rhonda Davis
Twas about a year and a half ago on Ebay that they started to emerge (and I'm looking for the email I got from the guy's mate who said he'd got loads of them and to watch the auctions). Low and behold somewhere around 30 copies were sold from the same guy in the space of a few weeks. Not denying it's a great record, just pointing out what I witnessed and i still hold to the view that it's over priced. Having said that, and looking at the MADNESS (or is that Insania?!?) of prices at the moment (see Gayle Adams for example) I don't think anyone listens anymore :-)

And well overpriced as I've seen loads of copies on ebay and in boxes! :-)

BUTCH'S ARTHUR WALLACE 45 - INFO?
Andy Rix's retired!?! I am not happy!!!!! He has always been one of my fave DJ's, despite his resemblance to that character out of Ren & Stimpy (lol) and did a blinding set at the Plinston when he came down for us. Please tell me this isn't true :-( If your reading this Andy drop me a line mate as i would certainly have you behind the decks again at the Plinston. TheBigO

Lyric Search
Whilst DJing I've been asked for such classics as 'Skinhead in the snow'; 'You've got VD' (Bobby Valentines Bad Breath in case your wondering); and my own fave 'I've got a car Load' which turned out to be 'Manifesto!!!!!!!' - ah, the joys of the soulful ear

Rhian Benson's Video
Sadly Ady I did! Saw the Video on MTV Base earlier today, not sure if the said model did anything for me though :-)

BUTCH'S ARTHUR WALLACE 45 - INFO?
On the subject of Arthur's 45, and I am sure that Nick Brown has one doesn't he?, I did speak with Craig Moorer in the US a few years back about getting it and he said that he'd had a few of them in but sold all of them off cheap as he didn't rate it and couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. Anyone confirm?

London Types
Ah Johnny the old Northern jape of playing a cover-up .... Happend to me with Jacko at a local Sunday night event where in made me big said toon up, having rushed all the way back from Stafford with it, whereupon I, like any decent soulful DJ, slapped it on the decks only to be confronted with some mindless PAP that was drowned out by the even more mindless laughing of all the assembled soulies....needless to say I check EVERYTHING given to me before spinning these days.

Betty Davis
The only person I know of to have recently tracked her down in 2002 was a journo by the name of James Maycock and he stated then that she was reclusive it won't be easy. Dont have a contact for said journo either. Sorry.

NEWS IF TRAVELLING TO THE PLINSTON!
Seems my posting worked then as weve gone through almost 200 tickets in less than a few days! Looks set to be another great night so if you are travelling PLEASE get a ticket from the Box Office (01462-672003) or reserve one from us at the usual contact address to avoid having to wait to get in or, worse, being turned away. We are very pleased to have our special guests joining us for this the 2nd Plinston of 2004: The Dome supremo and owner of tasty suits Mr Alan Handsome Handscombe who will be gracing the decks both in The Main Hall and The Mojo Room and spinning some of his little beauties that have got them grooving at the Tuffnel Park venue over the past few years; Arthur Fenn needs no introduction to most and will be in both the Main Hall, meaning Soul Sam will only be in The Ghetto! for this night, as well as The Ghetto! and a varied and exciting selection of tip top toons is expected; finally Mr Dave Welding is the Midlands best kept secret as far as we are concerned and should surprise a lot of people in both the Main Hall and The Ghetto! with his knowledge and collection that he has amassed over the last 30+ years on the scene. Dave has turned both Taff and myself, and countless other name DJs, on to some blinding obscure and not-so-obscure gems and so we are pleased that we have been able to give him the wider exposure he deserves and thus be able to doth our cap in his direction - a genuine guy and a tip-top soul boy. Of course The usual Suspects will be behind the decks as always and Keith Hammond and others will be there to help you part with your hard earned readies via the medium of merchandise :-) Probably my last post before the event so have a great weekend all and see ya next Friday for the usual Happy People Party that is the Plinston :-)

All Singing, All Dancing, All Night 08.04
Just thought I'd say that I really enjoyed the lovely Jo's interview an choice of songs - however as I didn't get a mention and Taffy did I can no longer entertain the idea of having her DJing at the Plinston :-) So, looks like Ms Wallace it's having to wait until The Rocket re-opens for you....Neen Nee, Neee, Naaah Nahhh!!!!! Hugs and kisses

Thoughts Please
I've no problems with people playing unissued tracks from CD's or the playing of CD's at venues like yours - the music is all important and getting new blood involved is vital if we are to survive and flourish as a scene. Besides having seen the prices of 45's recently go mental and pricing many out of the market I don't blame anyone who wants to promote this scene of ours having to turn to legal CD's. TheBIgO

Worst Records
Hmmm, down to your own taste indeed as I love Ike & Tina and as for Mr Kline, a classic!!! Now me I loathe with a passion 'Trick Me, Treat Me, by the Cobblestones and there was a record Roger spun at the 100 Club in the 80's that I swear shared the same backing as 'Riders On The Storm'!!!! Now that was dire!!! (Anyone remember who it was??) Having heard some of the stuff Mr Levine was spinning on his recent return/leaving/return/leaving etc etc I can think of at least 20 more to add to my list :-) Rare does not equal quality/good - as I've said B4 on this very site, Searling summed it up best when he said it's a Rare Soul scene - rare in quality, not just quantity. TheBigO *Hopefully my profile pics uploaded now - see my taste in shirts has remained as consistent as my love of the scene
