  2. Never been a problem for me Nev. I think it works as a nice wind-down actually. Besides, with a dance-floor of 40 plusers you have to give 'em time to get their breath back! Ian D
  3. Repeat coming up on www.starpointradio.com in 10 minutes @ 5.00pm folks! Ian D
  4. Can't really see the point of editing all the You Tube clips and replacing 'em with Refo clips Chalky. The reason I whack You Tube clips up there is it's easier! One click and you hear the track immediately plus get to see the label in most instances. Plus you could be scrolling down and see a label that looks interesting and want to hear it, whereas with Refo you don't get any interesting visuals and you have to wait for the player to load. It takes a lot of the fun out of it. I've nothing against Refo apart from the fact it's a bit clumsy compared to You Tube. Does it really make a huge amount of difference which facility one uses? Ian D
  5. "I Keep Trying" - Fred Hughes fred hughes - i keep tryin - exodus Ian D
  6. "Friends And Lovers Don't Go Together" - Hoagy Lands hoagy lands - friends and lovers don't go together - laurie Ian D
  7. Wow. Has he recorded anything else? That's some performance he put it on "We Got To Keep On". One of the greatest duel-off's I've ever heard in fact...... Ian D
  8. Yep, it's a goodie today! One day I'll do a serious Latino-Soul section for ya dude. I need to try and find a couple of real oddballs to make it worthwhile. I've still got a few tucked away which need dusting off so I'll dig 'em out! Coming up LIVE @ 2.00pm on www.starpointradio.com folks. Tune in and enjoy me working my balls off on a FREEZING Sunday afternoon whilst you can sit back and relax! Ian D
  9. LOL, I can assure you it wasn't fennel tea Brett! Ian D
  10. Glad ya like it Chris. In fact your avatar name just reminded me of this gem......what a stormer this is! Everything but the kitchen sink on this one LOL....... "Why Did You Leave Me Girl" - Mad Dog & The Pups mad dog and the pups - why did you leave me - magic city Ian D
  11. Wow. Fascinating. I don't think I've ever heard this before! Totally, totally different but what a wonderful version. "We've Got To Keep On" - Freddie Hughes freddie hughes - we gotta keep on - wand I prefer the Casonava Two version 'cos I love the interplay between the vocalists and the complete over-the-topness of it all. By the way, who is the other vocalist in the Casanova Two? He must have been great to duel Freddie like that! Ian D
  12. Definately. Wonder if it'll go up 1000% between now and the auction end......? Ian D
  13. Wow. Helluva cold snap ay? Perfect conditions for staying at home, nice and warm and listening to a radio show that is capable of providing a nice inner glow on a chilled-out Sunday afternoon when it's f*ckin' freezing outside LOL ......... A very seasonal show this week folks. Luckily we've been blessed with a great new album release, some tasty new re-edits, some under-appreciated 80's gems, some much-loved long-term faves from the show, a slew of vintage Northern Soul, some under-played killers and a beautiful glide into Soul Heaven throughout the last half-hour. Take some time out. Treat yourself. Run a bath. Light some candles. Uncork a bottle. Demolish a 6 pack. Whatever works for you. Let me do the work! It'll be a pleasure as always. Six Million Steps Presents The Original Mastercuts Show LIVE with Ian Dewhirst between 2.00-4.00pm on Sunday 28th November 2010 on everyone's favourite Soul station www.starpointradio.com. 14. Cheers Brett! You should be happy with today's show touch wood. You know how it is. It looks easy but there's so much deliberating............ Ian D
  15. Oh yep. Can only get bigger. Right now we have the early adaptors. As more people slip into retirement they'll have more time on their hands and they'll discover the joys of continuing their obsessions via cyberspace and showing their neighbours their hobby. Collecting 'real' artefacts from a sensational half-century of real musical creativity will be the equivalent to Antiques Roadshow in a few years. Northern Soul is nowhere near peaking yet. Likewise long-term record values. The internet has expanded the audience massively. And these records are pretty rare goddam it................ Ian D
  16. I think I got circa £110-120 for a copy a while back. If you can get it for £60 I'd consider that a bargain for a tune of this calibre. Ian D
  17. Well, ya never stop learning do ya? I vaguely remembered the J.R. Bailey tune but I'd sure never heard the Universal Joint version! All this on the J.R. Bailey thread over in the 'Is This Record Overpriced" in the 'Look In Your Box' section. Great records both of 'em. Woulda been too slow by far in my day but a good tempo for old joints these days methinks...... "Love Won't Wear Off (As The Years Wear On)" - J.R. Bailey "Love Won't Wear Off (As The Years Wear On)" - Universal Joint https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9c3RGAGA9a0&feature=related Ian D
  18. Oh it'll be hard to find for a lot of people. I think there's an 'invisible' audience out there who don't necessarily get out that much. But they sure like to trawl records in cyber land in their leisure time. I know loads of 'em. They're the ones who ring me up every now and then and ask me if I know a tune they just picked up for next to nothing. Ian D
  19. Big on You Tube, the perfect model for obssessive wealthy computerised armchair collectors with sleeping disorders. 5 clips up there so people like it. Think about it. It's the perfect tool for 50+ lazy buggers who can now investigate tens of thousands of tunes coming from hundreds of fanatics all over the world from the comfort of their sofa. Once they find a tune they like, they flip over to e-bay, gemm, discogs or musicstack and start locating it. Sofa cyber collecting. It's the future. Ian D
  20. Oh boy, pure 100% Northern! Someone tell me this has been big at some time! Perfect! "I'm A Batchelor" - Bobby Banks https://il.youtube.com/watch?v=iTgivz75YkY&feature=related Ian D
  21. Yep. Same take. I think Soul Time's long deleted now but the Blackpool Mecca CD's still available. Worth buying for that track alone. Ian D
  22. It could be. I've never actually done a close comparison - I just assumed that the single was simply badly mastered.....? I'll have to give 'em both proper listens again and work it out. It was lucky that we insisted on using the original master tapes otherwise this mix/version would still be unheard. You can even clearly hear the countdown at the beginning of the track.......it blew my socks off when I heard it over studio monitors for the first time....... Ian D
  23. Yep good call Dave. When the album was being mastered I couldn't believe how clear the mix was compared to the single. I think the 'muddy' mix on the single hampered it's chances to be honest. If the mix on the CD had been released instead of the one used for the single it really would have been a monster. So if anyone wants to hear the best mix of this it's available for a mere £4 with free shipping from Amazon and you can hear a clip here........ The Blackpool Mecca Story Ian D
  24. Blimey. Almost $500 with 6 bidders and 6 hours to go. That's going some innit? It's making me wonder any of the bidders have been reading the 'How Come They Never Made It Big' thread 'cos it's in there. Maybe it found a few new fans.....? And the issue is incredibly rare. I think I've only seen it once....... Ian D

I rest my case. Eric's prime audience is the sexually imaginative female market, all of whom get off on Eric's good looks and just-about OK vocals. Marvin would have whipped his ass make no mistake......... But Jesus, I'm worried about you Theresa....... In terms of imagery, I could just about deal with Eric Benet because, let's face it, if you're a female and sexually active then who wouldn't? But Lenny Kravitz's sweaty dreadlocks swishing around.....? Phew. No thanks........plus his taste in music is debatable to say the least.......... Best track on the album by a country mile is "Paid". Eric's ass got bailed by Eddie Levert - a real vocalist! Ian D
