India would be quite interesting; though from experience, their releases look very much like their UK counterparts, particularly the Decca or EMI related releases. But it's also worth bearing in mind that India were also pressing 78s until 1968, so what could be out there on 10" shellac? The 78 format was mainly for those parts of India who weren't yet connected to electricity, and had to rely on portable wind-up gramophones, also still in production in India until the late '60s. Who knows; maybe an Impresions 78 on Indian HMV? It's possible...... Gene

Just woken up after an excellent nite at the 100 Club - some excellent sets played!! One record which grabbed my attention is being played by Butch at the mo - all I could find out about it is that it's by Arthur Wallace (I guess that's how it's spelt). Anyone know any details on it (title, label etc?). Sorry about vagueness of detail here, but when I asked Butch about it while he was on, the only answer I got (with a smile) was "Arthur Wallace"!! It was too dark to see the labels on the decks, so that didn't help either!! What I can tell you it's that it's a neat organ-lead male vocal at about the same pace as style as "Sweete'n" by Wilbur Reynolds. It was Butch's second spin in his 2 - 2.30am spot. Hi Ian, Yes, I know!! Price has got beyond ridiculous for Greg Perry. I even flinched when I heard that the supposed correct price these days should be between £30 - £40!! I bought mine for £2 (Keb's old copy) in 1982, about 8 months after it was a new release!!! As the lyrics should dictate; "It takes heart to get up, It takes mugs to pay up!" Gene

FROM www.bbc.co.uk American R&B singer John Whitehead, best known for the 1979 hit song Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, has been shot dead in Philadelphia. The 55-year-old musician was shot in the neck while he and another man, also wounded, were mending his car in the street. The assailant fled. Whitehead and singing partner Gene McFadden were both former members of The Epsilons, managed by Otis Redding. After a brief stint in jail for tax evasion, Whitehead went solo in 1988. McFadden was reported to have been devastated by the news of his colleague's death. He attended the scene of the crime in the city's West Oak Lane neighbourhood where Whitehead was earlier shot in the neck. The other man shot in the incident was taken to hospital. Both McFadden and Whitehead were born in Philadelphia in 1948, joining The Epsilons as teenagers. The group's career took off during a two-year tour singing backing vocals for Otis Redding in the 1960s, but the quintet split up following Redding's untimely death. Subsequently, McFadden and Whitehead joined the Philadelphia International label where they focused on their producing and songwriting skills. Notable hits on the songwriting front included Wake Up Everybody for Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, and Back Stabbers for The O'Jays. The pair also wrote for artists including The Jacksons, James Brown and Gladys Knight and The Pips, winning over 20 gold discs. Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, later covered by Luther Vandross, sold more than eight million records and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
