Mouldie I don't think Kev aimed that arrow at you. I will reiterate that "People" make history not a building . In order to save its history you would need to write a book containing memories from the people that were inside the building experiencing those colourful nights , Now there's an idea for someone ? a museum will never capture those moments on paper. However a book would. You know I could understand this passion to save it if it was a building that looked pleasing to the eye , but you have to admit it isn't , its seen better days and to save and make it pay you would have to knock out of the building all the character that holds your memories of it. By the time youi made it "safe " and attractive to pay its own way in 2010 and beyond it will manifest into something that you don't recognise anymore. With regards to bands finding somewhere to play , me thinks there are more places around then you think. are these places still open? frommy experience : Camden Palais Town & Country Hammersmith Palais Brixton acadamy Remember will are in Y2K and bands dont do many small gigs now , its all MP3 downloads or massive venues. So again before you throw money at something think it through with regards to what the long term objective is. I would love to see the 100 at Notre Dam , within reach of my fave railway station Euston ! easy passage home for us poor living in a box northerners ... that was a joke by the way before anyone gets on their high horse.

One would have to ask for what purpose are you saving the building ? It would take a lot of investment to make it pay , do you want to turn it into a museum or a Zoo to be able to raise the required yearly revenue to keep it open "long term ?" Surley that would be the worst thing ever ? People can't keep dishing out donations to pay the rent each year when most of them have higher priorities like surviving in todays very unstable economic climate.

I am sorry but I am going to have to question this comment , didn't the customer cover all that in paying a regular door tax ? Now I am far from a regular at the 100 club but I think you have gone a little over top here and might offend a few with that comment as those that subscribed on a regular basis made the history. II'll put it down to your youth and passion , but you need correcting on this comment. 6t's R&S have done very well to remain at this venue for so long. Take a look around Oxford street , how many other clubs do you see on this street ? The street is for shopping. The 100 has had its issues in where to park and what to do when having to get train after the doors are shut. We have seen many debates in the past about the state of the venue and toilets. Now some like it shabby they throw in the oh buts nice dark dingy and authentic and true to how it was many years ago card .. well personally I like comfort , maybe its an age thing but yes comfort is good in my book and I am not ashamed to admit it. This could be .......I am sure WILL be the dawning of a new 6ts R&S club with a superb dancefloor , a great chillout area , with comfy seats and the very best of music perhaps tea and bacon butties ! Perhaps out of London and also be a venue that all the people can get to with much more ease. You may even find it only attracts the soulful soul and eliminates the lat bar tourist .... now surley that would please many ? So look at the positives ! I think to ask people to subscribe to its upkeep to line some fat cats pocket is not a good suggestion , Your energy would be best focused in supporting a new home for 6th R&S assuming you are a local. So to expect the "soul scene" to bail it out or be at fault for its demise for not coming forward with the reddies to save it is far too high an expectation in my most humble opinion. The Casino and the Torch were pulled down and the souls that supported those clubs still remain . it will be the same with the 100 , its just bricks .. time to move on my friend.

---- How could I forget another Saturday night was sung by Sam Cooke ?, I think the sun must have got to my brains last week ! I think what really shocked me last week was the realization of how early my soul roots sort of sprouted . I was only 11 when I heard Brenton , along with the Foundations which was a fave group of mine along the equals and Blue Mink like you say they were then regarded as "chart" soul, maybe we now term as "club" soul . I remember listening to them on radio Caroline and it gave me such a pleasure at the time. I always thought my earliest influences were Tamla but when I heard Brenton I realised he came before that for me. What has shocked me a little now is just how much other stuff that he has produced which is new to me and I look forward to hearing it , so thanks guys for making this such an informative thread.

I have just uploaded it in refo soul also it appears as my last played clip should anyone like to hear it. Its all clear now there were two groups with the same name . I heard another sensations track and thought they sound so different on this track ? Also noticed one up on ebay for a staggering 10.00 dollars.... it sounds so much more expensive dont you think ? I must say I am a little shocked that not many have chosen to put up three from last weekend ? You kind of get the impression that there are loads of Dj's /players on this forum when you look at opinions on other threads .... yet hardly anyone is prepared to show us their plays ? I don't think of myself as a DJ , I just like to collect records within my means which perhaps is why I may play things that other people may discount because they are cheap I do however get asked to spin/share my taste on occasion , this being the Wellingborough dayer so from my little box of tricks I offered the following three within the two sets I put together . Willy McDougal - Don't turn away I simply had to play this because his voice makes me go all weak at the knees and I was asked to play some R&B , but had left the records behind in another box as this session was supposed to be "Chill out ", so I thought I would select something with a bit of poke. People danced Cody Black - Going Going Gone Now I selected this because its a fantastic record to dance to but most won't play it because its very cheap? a great 10.00 record that can quite happily play back to back with a 100000.00 record. People danced The Sensations - I've been hurt Now I just simply adore this sound and I was just pampering myself on this one really People didn't dance - They didn't know it ? The tune that did it for me over the weekend was played by Ted Massey sung by Clarence Townsend I found a new love awesome record that sadly I shall never own as its a bloody expensive one. Carms
