  1. I know most of us on here like to hear underplayed unknowns but I was kind of thinking as a chin stroker , which back bone northern soul tunes do you like to hear that really do lift you higher and higher? My ten top Northern tunes are as follow Matt Lucas - youbette rgo go Larry Atkins - ain't that love enough Johnny Sayles - I can't get enough Martha Starr - Love is the only solution Barbara Aklyn - Aint no love Yvonne Baker - My Baby needs me Steve Mancha - Friday night Kriss Peterson - Just as much Lorraine Chandler - what can I do Charades - Key to my happiness
  2. Fair enough John at another time i would have probibly seen the funny side of your comment . Lets say my sence of humour has been challanged this last month. Having said that admire anyone that back foots and apologizes so I accept your apology. Lets move on. Carms
  3. Thanks for the sound file Andrea's I really enjoyed your selection. What I will say is that we too have many unsung heroes who like to dabble into something different , which is making Sunday sessions very popular . In particular The Piano & Pitcher in York is well worth a visit if you are over here. In Manchester I think we are very lucky to have a few social clubs along with town pubs that really do stretch boundaries. I still need to get to Doncasters Horse & Groom:) I must say I am a bit picky about the funky stuff that seems to be a bit in vogue at the moment. I love Sag War fares Don't be so Jive along with James Knights There goes my baby , and Alcon Shades All is forgive along with a whole eclectic mix of stuff that ranges from Teddy P I don't love you anymore through to Delihla Moore It takes love . I also love those oldies you don't hear much as mentioned before Gwen Owens I lost a good thing and recently turned on by Toni Lamar - If I didn't love you which is a nice b-side. Plus as you know love anything by the Impressions and Esquires. I have just returned to some funky stuff from Ady Poutain which I am enjoying , I think there is a Robert Moore? track 15 which I love (lost the track list) I cant help myself I think its called. Reminds me of everything's gonna be alright Sometimes the journey takes longer don't you find ? Trouble with me is I am Spanky Wilson and Marva Whitney type funk person I am more into the deep stuff. In my mind its best to always view music with an open mind and accept that we are all different, and that some take longer to make the journey. I do hope I get the chance to sample Europe next year.
  4. I don't know who you are johnmcc/ You obviously don't know me very well . I do try and be constructive in my comments and I would like to be taken seriously , even though why I bother even trying to make sense of someone that is just a pure antagonist really does bug me. I would like to see you ask the other guys that have sort of said the same as me to "get a room" .. but you wouldn't would you because I am an easy target for a big guy like you. Pathetic ...
  5. Anyone got one of these for sale ? ...pm me please thanks Carms
  6. I love Soul Sams enthusiasm , my goodness he has taken some knocks in his very long totally committed career on the soul scene . The fact he can still get a spark from a different sub direction of soul at his age and deliver it with such passion and excitement I think is commendable. He also sticks to his guns and plays only what he thinks is good quality , he won't be shunted by opinion , that's brave in my book. I know for a fact he loves doing Europe the most because he has complete freedom of play. I guess as in all things its a matter of taste.... which tempo would you prefer :-
  7. What is a herbert ? Is that someone that just sort of wonders in off the street and kind of likes what is playing but isn't a regular? And do you find that its the case that many herbert types attend the do's. How many would you say regularly attend the standard clubs running currently ? thanks Carms
  8. Yes that's the one Chalks , I would love one of these , Kim's went for 41.00 dollars
  9. Superb sound i have the free angela lp version which suits us slower cats . I stumbled on another 45 of his recentely which kim fuller was selling which to my taste was also exceptionally good. Missed it on ebay
  10. I would love to know who is the lead singer on lets get back together. To me it sounds like a completely different artist than never in a million years. Thanks Carms

  13. I would like to see which five sounds have impressed you this year they can be oldies or newies And also which three you feel could do with a rest in 2013
  14. I bet its a lot easier to arrange a lift nowadays , and also to be an arm chair soul , you can read whats happening all over the country . The internet has brought many back to the soul scene. I do wonder what the next stage will be my guess is the future will be "local" soul internet groups forming as we travel less
  15. Spot on Geoff , when I have spoken to Brian about it he recalls Brazenose street as being more about an appreciation for those moody bluesy type sounds for example Sonny Boy Williamson Help me. It now all makes sense he and his pals had this infatuation with the George Raft look guys were so smart in the early 70's carrying this look of long overcoats parallel trousers/suits ,ties , button down shirts and those cut off v neck sweaters. Brolly was king along with well polished oxfords. The sight of a group of lads dressed this way was a sight to behold I recall razor partings too. I think I think I may have Brian's passport picture 1970 where you can clearly see a college boy look, see if i can dig it out and post it up.
  16. i had a notification that my cloud was being followed when I haven't even created one ? which is a little strange
  17. yes I enjoyed yours Russ done Mrfish too haven't done Steve Clancy yet ?
  18. Yes pete its been brilliant for me this weekend laid up at Crumpsall hospital , thank god I brought my laptop cause the NHS entertainment system is like 10.00 quid a day ! I've been cloud chasing all weekend and will carry on doing so over the next six weeks
  19. Must say I am really enjoying this medium , if there is one place that is proving inspirational its following these clouds. I am really enjoying the pincher twins selection along with Nev absolutely magical stuff which reflects that there are some very forward thinking collectors out there still today with superb selections on offer.... this is grown up soul at its best Anyone inspiring you with cloud ?
  20. Why let it bother you Toad , your time is now ... take a ride on the bus it might not be there tomorrow , it does sound like a very vibrant scene at the moment across the water.
  21. You have just hit the nail on the head Europe has the no baggage advantage ... they just want a great night out with music that they can dance to..simple , now if it lasts as long as it has here that's another thread I suppose it depends on what the standard music scene has to offer , I think current European trends are at an advantage because the current chart music scene is not really very good IMHO so the younger elements with an educated ear will favour 60's 70's soul , there will always be a mod culture for sure.
  22. It was underground , a cavern I guess when I went that cheeky chap Lee Miller was playing .... he was gob smacked when I walked through the door with Perdita Great night lots of fun and a mix of genres.
  23. I reckon environment is a big factor when you think our do's are like social clubs or big halls , I would imagine Europe is much more hip , my only experience is the Boiler club in Barcelona , which i must say was very exciting , and also a big factor is most were under 35 ! Oh I forgot Rimini , very cafe culture
  24. I love the way you mix the genres mate ... I think our separate genre rooms thing is killing the scene ... I do love a mix in tempos on this mixture of sounds the unpredictably of what is going to get played really appeals to me , loving it .... thanks ... say it to my face ...just awesome !
