  2. Allus been a sucker!
  3. I've got one of these. Great tune. Same both sides. Cost a tenner. John
  4. Interesting thought - there are people around who don't seem to actually care, or even have an opinion, on anything at all. Rather than being carefree, as you might expect from the term, they tend to be morbidly miserable. Just an observation..
  5. Yes, we can start searching Ebay, or whatever, all over again :-) In fact just provide the same box of 50 for us to look through every morning. That'll be something new for social services to get their heads round.
  6. I have no doubts about this - I'm well turned 60, the house is paid for, the lad has buggered off, and our lass and I have the best social life we've ever had thanks mainly to the fact that we kept a distant interest in the soul scene all through the years when we couldn't go anywhere. Now we're back 'at it', and it's brilliant. We've no intention of growing old gracefully (how f***ing boring is that?), and if I end up shuffling about to mid-tempo rarities with a zimmer at Happy Valley Rest Home some day then great.
  7. Thanks Steve, missed the other thread.
  8. Why does the real world have to keep getting in the way :-)?
  9. If so, somone's picked up a little bargain. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAM-FLETCHER-TOP-RARE-NORTHERN-SOUL-POPCORN-TOLLIE-ORIGINAL-/110893366443?pt=UK_Records&hash=item19d1c27cab&autorefresh=true
  10. Interesting here, to me a least, is that no-one has mentioned the styles that are collectively known as Rhythm and Blues. R&B seems to broadly spans the gap between out-and-out Soul and pure Blues. I've always placed artists such as Boby Bland and Z.Z. Hill in this area, though, of course, their material cuts right across the spectrum as a whole. If I may go slightly off the original question, I don't think that the mentality that deliberately refuses to accept certain songs or artists because they aren't whatever the definition says they should be is at all helpful or desirable. A lot of R&B gets played at Soul nights, and, of course, the Mod scene has always accepted a wide variety of tunes from Soul, R&B, Blues, Ska, Latin, 60s Beat etc., etc. Music is a continuum, not a series of clearly defined chunks, and there is great material to be heard at any event, no matter how is it advertised or marketed. So, I don't think it's all that important what niche you place Bobby or Z.Z. in: their music is wonderful, and that's all that matters.
  11. I suppose the question is do you buy records to look at them or to play them? Given that the latter is, of course, the reason why they were ever produced in the first place, then, to me, how it sounds should take priority when describing a piece of vinyl. Having said that, I've lost count of the number of absolute bargains I've picked up because they were visually graded and had surface scuffs or label damage but actually play superbly. So, perhaps I'd better not argue this point too strongly, I'd be shooting myself in the foot. :-)

Crikey, had this since year dot and never spun it over, or, if I did, must have thought, 'Can't play that!'. What a gorgeous tune! Just right for today's more soulful, chilled events.

  15. Thanks Andy. Couldn't find it on YouTube when I looked. Then again I have trouble finding most things these days :-).
  16. In a strange sort of way Steve I'm glad someone likes it. It means perhaps I wasn't all that wrong when I bought it. If you're looking for a copy you can have mine. If it's going to a good home I'll quite happily part with it for nowt.
  17. I know it's all very subjective, but has anyone got a good word for The Magic Band - Falbala? I can't find a clip of it, but I heard it once around 1976 - me being younger, impressionable, stupid, whatever, and actually bought it. Never played it since.
  18. Thanks everyone for your contribution. All the information is much appreciated. All the best John
  19. Thanks Boba, legit reissues then.
  20. Thanks Trev, that's tidied that up, and I can breathe a little sigh of relief :-)
  21. I noticed that all the current Ebay sales are like mine, though they are only from a couple of sellers, but both claim them to be absolutely genuine. They make a big point of it. I can't find a 'proper' one anywhere with the correct label. It's confusing as hell.
  22. According to JM, if the MR is stamped, not scratched, then it's ok. I have one of these (white demo on styrene) but it has no ARP matrix. Another variation?
  23. Hi All I'm sure this has probably been covered before, but can someone help with this. I have a copy of The Montclairs on Paula 381 with the wrong title printed on the label. Instead of 'Hung Up On Your Love', it says 'How Can One Man Live'. The flip is 'Make Up For Lost Time'. The deadwax carries the numbers 'SL-2243' & 'SL-2244', and a small imprint that looks like 'MHC' and the number '127'. I've read many times that this is a genuine Paula release and the result of a pressing plant error. Yet I have also been told this is a 70's pressing. There's nothing in JM's book, and no-one seems sure about it. Has anyone got a definitive piece of information that could nail it down? All help much appreciated John
