Bangor Soul At Social - Fri 7 feb

Another soul event on North Wales Coast and yet another enjoyable nite, it was time for a trip thru tunnel to Bangor Social. Bit quiet at first, djs on nite were guests Steve holyhead Thomas, Bob Shaffer, Paul Oslem with me and Johnny J doing reg bit Place ended up well packed, long distance haulers from Manchester Stockport Flint Wrexham and even more exotic locations, a well large Llandudno contingent showed up and all the local Bangor and Anglesey types Always a good laugh here, with local ducking and diving, good vinyl sales, catching up , sorting out and all that, sounds wise it often depends on the crowd as in reaction to what goes down, as was a good mixed one in it meant sounds following suit. Current, all era, revivals all went well with crowd up for it. Djs dished out a great mix that worked well. Afterwards it was a session at farmhouse, went for 30 mins and ended up getting home just after milkman. Looking back a very enjoyable nite, feedback had by some says was one of if not the best been to Next one as always first friday of month line up incs Andy Killock (chester) Gerald Hogan (bangor) Dave Miller (stafford) regs johnny j and mike h

SCENESVILLE AT THE CAMDEN CENTRE, FRIDAY FEBRUARY 21ST

SCENESVILLE AT THE CAMDEN CENTRE, FRIDAY FEBRUARY 21ST Just a quick note this month to give you all a bit of advance notice that Scenesville's 2003 dates kick off on February 21st with our long-awaited return to the Camden Centre. With no Camden Centre gig since the anniversary night stormer in October, it'll be great to get back there again, with it's superb dancefloor, amazing decor, power-packed sound system - and helpful management! To celebrate, we're reinstating the happy hour, and adding some extra bar staff in view of the overwhelming demand last time, so you'll be getting the same jawdroppingly cheap prices as October, but without the wait! Furthermore, since Chris is about to become a dad again, he'll be away from the decks for a few months wrestling with nappies and feed bottles, so we hope you'll join the whole Scenesville team in wishing him and Joely congratulations and the best of luck with their new little one. Meanwhile, back at the go go, the good news is that KITCH will be joining the team as a resident, at least for the time that Chris is away, and hopefully afterwards, too, if we manage to find a way of still squeezing everybody into the time available! Finally, we warmly welcome MARK HANSON as February's guest, with a boxful of stunning sounds that will slot into the Scenesville playlist like a dream. - Top Ten and more details about Mark coming up soon!

The Morning After The Night Before - Crossfire!

Waking this morning looking like an extra from Mr Jacksons Thriller video and smelling something akin to a Turkish wrestlers jockstrap, I thought it only right to post a few notes on last nights Crossfire event in London. (Forgive the briefness of the review but to be honest I need more SLEEEEEEP!) So, here we go with the main points: packed in all rooms (800 approx in), atmosphere was great, the DJs did us proud with just one great track after another (and Andy Rixs gets a special mention for managing to really p*** me off for playing a great unissued version of Sam Fletchers Id think it over (more uptempo) by the writer of the song which I will never be able to own, caress, love, hold etc etc!!!!), loads of laffs, free buses to the 2nd venue (which due to kids I couldnt attend but heard was just as good). All in all a top notch stonking night. My only moan was that the dancefloor was RAMMMING which meant that an old git like me, who throws his arms and legs around with all the grace of a Dervish on acid, couldnt move as freely as he wanted. :-x That said well done to all involved, well done for the crowd turning up in numbers and roll on the next night! TheBigO * Oh, one point for all the doubters and supporters of certain other promoters in London that night. I congratulated Ady C on a great night and turn-out and he was gracious enough to say that the Rocket looked like they were busy as well which was good. There speaks a TRUE SOUL BROTHER!!!! Ya listening Levine?!? A few pics to follow.

Sad Times

In the past couple of years I have stayed out of the politics, At times over these years it has been very very difficult.Today I have had enough. Everyone should make up their own minds about who the perpetrator (s) may be. But I was going to head over to the Rocket as well as coming to Crossfire. Now if anyone visits the Rocket, IN MY OPINION, you are supporting the kind of parasite this scene does not need. You dont need to go to the Rocket to have a good time this saturday. The Rocket promotors dont need your entry fee. The Rocket promoters do need their egos massaged by a high turn out. All beit with hundreds of freebies handed to non soul people, just to add to the "atmosphere" of hundreds of people stood at the side gawping, or pratting about on the dancefloor with a bottle of beer in their hands. I will be down at crossfire on Saturday night. I hope to see most of you there too. miky

Punters Caught in the Crossfire

For those interested, Ive posted a statement on the 6Ts site on behalf of the Crossfire promoters. http://www.6ts.info/crossfire_notice.html All we can do is keep rising above those involved in sabotaging the scene and VOTE with our feet and our wallets. Albeit 3 hours shorter, Crossfire is still going to be a blinding night. hit here for link

CROSSFIRE NEEDS YOU!

I have just learnt of the dirty tricks campaign being waged against the promoters of Crossfire involving the attempt of individuals, as yet unknown, to cause the maximum amount of disruption to the event and to try and steer Soulies away from the venue this coming Saturday. (I am certain by the time I post this everyone will have been made aware of the details.) As a promoter myself and as someone who knows the guys behind the event well (and admires their love of the scene and the music and their integrity) I could not just sit and do nothing as someone attempts to gain from this underhand dirty tricks campaign. It is at times like this you find out who your friends are and where people stand with regards to the way the scene should be. Therefore I am happy to say that I stand side by side with the lads from Crossfire and give them my 100% support. I have mailed all of the Plinston members and all of those in my email address book urging them to attend this Saturdays event if they can and I would ask all decent like minded Soulies to do the same. This sort of underhand campign MUST NOT be allowed to succeed, it is the thin end of the wedge and will do nothing for the scene that we all love and hold dear. Apathy allows these sort of individuals to flourish and grow stronger....vote with your feet as I will do this Saturday - See ya at Crossfire! TheBigO :-x

FIRST PLINSTON OF 2003 - BLINDING!

:-) The first Rare Soul session of 2003 was a huge success with over 360 in and a great night had by all. Ginger was outstanding, playing an hour and a half of quality across the board sounds, inc a few new things that have gone straight on my wants list, and The Usual Suspects kept up the quality to ensure a full dancefloor right to the 2am close. The Mojo Room was rocking to the sound of RnS and R&B and was a huge hit. The presentation made to me by Ginger (an authentic black pudding and a CD) was well recieved by all in the hall.

In short another great night at North herts biggest Rare Soul event, fantastic sounds, atmosphere and crowd. Full set of pictures will be posted later this week.

Thanks to all who have supported us over the months....roll on March 7th and Soul Sam!!!
