Leeds Soulful Shack @ The Rec
Crossgates Recreational Club is a very active club in north east Leeds. The management take a great pride in presenting the venue the very best they can. The function room is upstairs and there is a lift for easy access. Toilets are on the same floor. Friendly staff and working man club priced drinks.
Going back to our roots, the night is about the great times of our youth. Motown classics and sounds from the youth club days like Band of Gold by Freda Payne played from the original vinyl records. There might be smattering of popular, modern and R&B.

This October we have two resident DJs Richard Reed & Sean Taylor with special guests National DJ Ted Massey from Sutton Coldfield and Martin Manning a late replacement for Rob Gray who has had to cancel. Playing the best in Northern Soul & Tamla Motown all on vinyl on the venues superb surround sound system. Fully air conditioned room, super wooden sprung dance floor & drinks at sensible prices. Soul Brew are still planning on sticking to the third Friday of every month to avoid clashing with other events locally - here are a few details for our October jaunt at The Harold Club.🙂
The Harold's got it all - a warm welcome & fab, friendly atmosphere; great sound system; top-notch dance floor with absolutely no need at all for talc; bar prices at WMC rates; large car park & good transport links. It's situated on the main road, with easy access from Chain Bar Roundabout & close to Low Moor train station. There's even a nice hotel (The Guide Post) less than 10 mins walk away for those who fancy making a weekend of it!
We tend to limit numbers to 120 max in order to make sure everyone has a seat & also a space on a not-too-crowded dance floor, so please be early to avoid disappointment.

Making his Crawdaddy! debut this month is well-respected DJ about town Joel Maslin.
Since the early 2000’s Joel has DJ-ed at a variety of soul and RnB nights, mostly notably Vic Ranger and Gav Evans' Shotgun. He was one third of the VaVaVoom rare soul events alongside Ady Lupton and Yann Vatiste, and has been resident DJ at Ady Croasdell’s 6T’s Rhythm & Soul All-nighter at the 100 Club for about 10 years.
Joel has also DJed at rare soul events in the North such as Mick H’s Boat Club in Nottingham, and Manchester’s fantastic Different Strokes, as well as events across Europe, mainly in Spain at nights such as Runaway Love, Greenvillage Soul and Movin’ On, and also for Henning Born at the Not Too Young Swiss Soul Weekender.
More recently Joel DJ’ed at Soul at The Ritzy in Brixton.
