The Newquay Soul Weekender is back for 2024

A fabulous weekend featuring across-the-board soul music in the usual Soul On Wax style at the Legacy Hotel Victoria in wonderful Newquay, Cornwall.
This weekender offers you a more chilled-out vibe than our other events, with the Hotel Ballroom and breakfast restaurant overlooking the beach and Newquay Bay. The Soul On Wax team takes over the delightful Legacy Victoria Hotel for a full weekend of soul music. The music policy is across the board and the DJs we have selected are not afraid to mix it up a little from the normal. Yes, you will get all of your favorites over the weekend but also some new, rare, and fresh tunes to your ears!   
We have set up special room rates with the Legacy Victoria Hotel, a standard double room can be booked for as little as around £70.00 including a full English breakfast. (Hotel suites and sea-view rooms may be charged at a higher rate). You can book directly with the Legacy Hotel Victoria on Tel: 01637 872255 (please quote accommodations) when booking. Newquay offers lots of alternative accommodation close to the event, the closest hotels are the Griffin Inn, Travelodge - Newquay Sea Front, Premier Inn Newquay (Seafront) hotel, and the Best Western. There are also hundreds of B&Bs in Newquay offering prices to suit all budgets.
Event tickets cost just £35 per person for the whole weekend and are not included in hotel room deals.  Special drink deals will also be on offer from the hotel over the weekend event. The hotel also offers hot food from the Hotel kitchen each evening. Your confirmed DJ line-up includes Ted Massey, Matt Trowbridge, Mark Sargeant, Dean Carr,  Kieron Taz Robathan. More DJs are to be announced soon! 
The event offers two great rooms (The main ballroom) and welcomes back the wonderful modern soul lounge, which was a massive success in 2023.
The event start time is Friday at 5 pm with a soul night until 2 am. Saturday features an all-dayer from 12 pm until 2 am and Sunday is our famous goodbye party from 1 pm until 10.30 pm. We have a retailer's event area and record dealers area. You also have access to the hotel pool and gym area. Breakfast is served in the restaurant which has great sea views over Newquay Bay. We also alter breakfast times to run from 9 am until 11 am for any late risers.

We are unveiling a blue plaque in Sheffield in tribute of DAVE GODIN. Dave adopted Sheffield as his home and was actively involved in both the soul scene locally and globally. This is the first time he has been recognised for his huge contributions to the Deep soul and his longstanding connection with Tamla Motown and other genres of black music. Anyone with any love of the music should be aware of Dave's influence. You are call welcome to attend this event in Sheffield at the picket music park,Charter square in Sheffield. We will be holding a small tribute at the frog & parrot nearby where we will be playing some of Dave's deep soul . Please try to join us in the important milestone .

Last outing at the Belvo. Shame, could have gone on to great things there. But, we don't renege' or give up. We are actively looking for the next venue and will keep you all posted on that. Meanwhile let's go out on a high.
BCN Soul Club so far:-
 
Our soul cub has gone through many changes since it’s conception in Colne back at the Tapsters Bar on New Market Street. Unfortunately we had to leave there because of financial pressures on Oliver the owner. We loved it there, and would still be there today if it was still open in the same format. But sadly, it is not, and the present owners did not require our services.
In those days we were called the Colne Soul Collective, and we were not too worried about what was played as long as the Dj who dropped the sound liked it. We had many guests, and little worries.
So we needed to look for another venue, which we found in Burnley at the Cirq Cafe Bar. Here we called ourselves the Cirq Soul Collective. Again we enjoyed a couple of years of more of the same thing. These were small venues which we found great for playing the more unusual tunes we liked to play. Things sadly went pear shaped here too, which lead us to look for another venue.
We found that in the Belvo. Things became different here, the room was large enough for dancing which created a different dynamic. We changed our name to the BCN Soul collective. (Burnley Colne & Nelson) but now, we find we need to cater for people who would like to dance.
Nothing wrong with that, as the whole scene is about dancing to good Soul music. This is where we have found it a little difficult to achieve a good balance, ie. Dancing tunes, as apposed to new tunes or little played tunes. I like to think that we shall get the balance right in the future. At least we understand the issues we face and are trying to address them. We have always been progressive in our outlook. For instance, we tell guest Dj’s they are free to play whatever they want. As apposed to play floor fillers. I’m sure the Dj’s would all like to play unknown floor fillers, but it doesn’t happen that way.
So things have now changed at the Belvo and we are on our last gig there this weekend. We do have another venue in prospect. So we would like to leave the Belvedere on a high, and news of our next venue will be soon be available to you all.
So hopefully you can all be there on the next step of our journey?

The fourth LoveTown Event takes place on Sunday 3 November at Lilypad, King Road, Harrogate, HG1 5HY - 3 'til 9.
LoveTown is NOT a traditional old school soul event. We specialise in post 1975 tunes in  Modern Soul, Jazz Funk, and (non cheesy) Disco genres. We play off vinyl - 90% on the original releases. We aim to play for the dancefloor and get everyone up for a boogie. We have taken our name and musical inspiration from The Booker Newberry 3rd 80's classic.
The Lilypad is a cool bar situated on Kings Road about 1 mile from Harrogate Bus and Train stations. (Catch the No 2 Bus from the bus station and get off at Kings Road Post Office - buses leave at 10,30 nd 50 minutes past the hour) . There is an excellent wooden dancfloor, room to move and lots of surrounding seats and tables. Extensive drinks list and food is served until 4 with some snacks available thereafter.

LoveTown is becoming very popular so we recomend getting there early!

We will play requests if we have them and the regulars often hand in a list on their arrival . Yes it's very informal and everyone seems to know each other in no time at all.
