About The Event

Just a quick 'heads up' to let you all know we have booked a date for the NEXT 'Spirit of The Orwell' on Saturday 16th April 2022 (Easter Saturday) at the usual venue - Haydock Golf Club. DJ's will be The Orwell fab foursome Flanny, Barry Maleady, Steve Connor and Steve Plumb and our guest DJ's will be two of the originators of The Modern Soul scene in the UK

    Wow! What a night at Haydock Golf Club on Saturday! Lived up to all our expectations and then some! Soul Sam & Arthur Fenn were both just simply wonderful. The format of the night seemed to be right too and I know Sam & Arthur both loved the opportunity of looking back at their past glories, along with playing many of their current spins and finally finishing with lots of their favourite ever tunes. Three hours of bliss that will live long in the memory. Massive thanks to both these legends of our scene and also thanks to everyone who supported us on Saturday too. A really healthy crowd for an Easter Saturday who came from all corners of the UK ready for a good night and that's what they helped create! It nearly went horribly wrong. Steve Connor had to pull out in the week due to covid and on the last moment we nearly had no sound system as Barry Maleady went down with gastric flu and literally had to get out of his sick bed to get the equipment installed. After setting up Barry went back to bed only to return at 1.30am to pick it up again. In Barry's words there was no way he was letting anyone down'. Of course he couldn't DJ either, so myself and Flanny had to fill in the gaps between Sam & Arthur's themed sets. Best moment of the night for me was at 9pm on the dot. Me and Flanny had been double decking out the back of our boxes with the lights on when we handed over to Sam. His first tune was the first of his lookback set with 'Daybreak - I Need Love'; the record started, the lights went off and instantly the dance floor was rammed and that's pretty much how it stayed until 1.30am on Sunday. Loads of brilliant records played all night, loads of brilliant people having a ball, just how we like it. Thank you once again to everyone who supported us. I think it goes without question that we MUST do this again next April. Sam & Arthur were adamant about it too, so watch this space! In the meantime we start to prepare for the return of the mighty Butch on Saturday 26th November. Thanks again. Steve Plumb - April 2022
