About The Event

2024 05 11 ITSOTU - A5 Landscape FINALv2.pdf**MATT FROM TOWBRIDGE** Guesting.

Our aim is a proper old school soul do in the Bournemouth/Poole area again. In the "Spirit of the Uni' is a nod towards Dave's old club nights at Bournemouth Uni - so if you went to them and were disappointed when the accommodation was re-developed and they ended, come and lend us a hand in building upon (and improving) the foundations laid a few years back.  Loads of things going on locally, but none really bring in out of area DJ's to keep it fresh and lift the bar musically to the levels we all crave and deserve.

The only music policy is Original Vinyl Only - other than that the DJ's (residents Dave Morris; Steve Malpass; & Stuart Ross - plus carefully selected guests) can play what they like across the broad Soul Spectrum. I'm very much of the view "if you don't clear the floor at lest once in every set... you're not trying hard enough". BUT of course it's not about us - it's all about YOU. So if you're planning on coming along to get SOULcial with us and have any sensible requests - please let us know.

Email: 8BallPooleSoul@gmail.com

Venue is The Newtown, and we will be using the smaller room which is arguably better & the dance floor will be 100% drinks fee and only used for what it is intended for... Loads of free parking round the back, and our own outside area for catching fresh air, smokey air, or just a cool off.

Here's looking forward to the rest of 2024 and growing our little south coast gathering together with you. La Familia.

Future dates for 2024 (guests to be announced) are:

  • Saturday 10 August 2024
  • Saturday 14 December 2024

All the best & see you soon.

Get SOULcial. Get 8-Ball. Get in the Spirit of the Uni.

Stu.

Many thanks for inviting me to spin some tunes, I really enjoyed the evening from start to finish. It was great to meet up with old friends and new and it brought me back to the many great nights we used to have at the Bournemouth University. I liked what Dave, Stuart & Steve are trying to do at the club, by playing underplayed tunes with some oldies also. Poole has always been a great area for soul and the knowledge of the soul fraternity is very high. I have been educated over the years with the quality dj's in the area. I really enjoyed the choices on Saturday made by Dave, Stuart and Steve. I will try to get down again soon with my dancing shoes on, as it was great to meet up with so many good friends- thanks again and go to the top of the class! from Matt.

Response from the promoter:

Thanks Matt - very kind words of support. As ever it was a pleasure to hear you play, and you're always welcome.

The second 'spirit of the uni' again offered me the chance to hear something different. To this it did not disappoint,I heard music that was new to my ears,or had forgotten. Tunes that are underplayed or just released. Even listened to stuff I didn't like but that's allowed and has always happened on the scene. The three residents were well supported by the excellent guest Matt from Trowbridge. So if you've got an open mind do give this event a go.

Response from the promoter:

Many thanks - glad there were tunes you didn't like, but hope those you did more than made up  for them. If all we did was play records everyone liked... we'd be failing & just the same as everyone else.

Our numbers were slightly lower than our first night but expected with other events happening. I would like to thank Matt for driving down from Trowbridge. He was always a great supporter of the Uni soul nights. A big thank you to the other residents Stuart Ross & Steve Malpass for sticking with the ethos of what we're trying to achieve. We are looking to play something different from the same old stuff that can be heard at other venues in the area.

If you want to hear some different stuff with a few oldies thrown in then please come along with an open mind.
