Picked up this immaculate ACE SPECTRUM up a couple of months back for £4 in a south London junkshop, along with a nice little pile of records, no bankbreakers, but some nice sounds all for pennies. Have noticed that the publishing is quoted as 'Nick o Val' but I'm sure I've seen a picture where the publishing was credited differently. Also in that picture I am sure there were some slight other label differences, i.e the position of the 'vocal' moniker etc.

The run out on this is ST -A - 29220 - 7, nothing else. Is this a boot or was there more than one issue with differing credits etc? Main reason I ask is that I've just seen this for sale publicly in the last week for £50. Interesting to know whether the guy concerned knows the status of the record?

Look for the STEREO on left of lable UNDER THE A (or Atlantic) which I think is the one to have. Some have this on the right had side.

Mine has the Pub: Nick-O-Val with the VOCAL just above it on the right of the label. But the matrix in the run-out is slightly different. Mine is ST-A-29220-4 not 7. It also has the tell-tale AT and another squiggle that I can't make out.

This 45 was a good seller at the time of its release and was pressed at several different pressing plants which explains the differences in label layout. There are at least 3 different issue variations. All of them are originals. Some are pressed on vinyl and some are pressed on styrene. Some examples:

it made no59 on the pop charts in 1974 (r n b no10) so as sebastian says a big seller on release. if its got their version of james taylor`s dont let me be lonely tonight on the flip all copies are original. the original promo is mono/stereo and there are at least 2 different variations of that as well as a white label original test pressing the boots have another atlantic classic on the flip im sure
