I keep seeing references on here and on dealers sites to records that are "getting rarer" or that are "going to be rare one day", "Future Rarity" and so on.
Clearly this is nonsense isn't it? I mean, the only way something could get rarer is if copies were destroyed or ceased to exist in some other way. I'm not referring to the sort of records that are locked up in collections and rarely emerge either - the phrase isn't usually applied in that way.
what's it all about then? is it that some people don't understand the distinction between rarity and demand? Otherwise, does the language give a clue to how the mind of the person using it works: do they really think that these items get scarcer?
Alternatively, does it just not matter and am I getting miffed at something that nobody else gives a toss about?
