Just bought this Betty Everett SAMPLE RECORD, noticed that when SAMPLE RECORD Stickers were placed on the label considerable care appears to have been taken as to positioning of Sticker.

I'm assuming that they were applied by hand, covering the Label name in this case but leaving ALL other relevant Information on View.

Got me wondering how many would have been in a batch for each release.

I'm guessing that it was more cost effective compared to printing a Custom DEMO Label.

Therefore (If that was the case), possibly smaller quantities.

Having looked at your Sample sticker, it looks good and proper to me, if there is label damage under the sticker it's from someone trying to remove the label?? the stick adds no value to the record unless it is on a withdrawn issue , apart from withdraw stock copy's, matrix # ID will tell you if the sticker is not meant to be on the record, and all demos are easy to spot as thay have sample in yellow paint on label Dave

More or less what Dave was saying: In the early 60's, the Philips group (including Fontana and Mercury) stopped issuing 'proper' demos and instead they used these stickers, after a couple of years they were replaced with a yellow SAMPLE stamp. I think the white demos were reintroduced in late 1968.
