Anyone see the BBC 4 Easy Listening series? The programme last night featuring Burt Bacharach's career was a great piece of musical history, some great video footage of the Brill Building at it's zenith, fantastic footage of Burt, George Martin and Cilla Black recording Alfie and of course, great footage of the maestro himself arranging and conducting both at rehearsals and live on stage, for lots of his hits including Dionne Warwick. Great contributions by Hal David and Carol Bayer-Sager too. Real skills, totally in command of their craft and rightly recognised as one of the great US composers of recent times.

And, just as importantly, the story was told by the people who lived it and not some celebrity TV presenter/hanger-on. Would like to have seen some input about Lou Johnson but the programme was about BB so I suppose I've forgive them that omission.

That Burt Bacharach was some cool dude!

Regards,

Dave

Enjoyed the programme and I know there's only so much you can cover in 90 minutes, but I think they missed a trick by not including any reference to exotica/lounge music. Not a single mention of Esquivel or Martin Denny and that feels like a significant omission to me.

Did feel jealous of Bob Stanley's Schweppes crate collection though biggrin.gif
