I've heard the grey Stax labels were pressed locally in the South. They seem to have been used more often on the earlier Stax releases.

they are legit, don't know the full story on the variation, prob just a different pressing plant or short lived experiment, Tony Rounce or someone will likely know more about whether it was used exclusively on any 45s or only appears concurrently with some light blue titles, I have Mar-Keys/Booker T & maybe other early stuff that I'm blanking on titles right now on grey.

i have a wendy rene, b-b-q / young and foolish on a light grey stax label. i got it so cheap i always assumed it was a boot (probably still is i guess)!
