Hope I'm posting this in the right place....

Has anyone picked up the 1st volume of The Soul Discography, I'm wondering how it stacks up against the R&B indies and what are the major differences apart from TSD having a later time line. Also is there much double up of information.

Cheers

Samantha

The biggest difference is the Soul Discographies covers artist discographies rather than label discographies. So it depends what sort of information you are looking for. It's very detailed in the discographies themselves, but obviously duplicates a lot of information simply because the R & B discogs contain the labels that the artists releases are on.

There are some sample pages which can be downloaded on the eyeballproductions website.

Highly recommend if you like your reference books.

Link to the article I posited when this book first came out....

scans of the sample pages there as well.

As Dave says it is by artist not label and if researching an artist will be quicker and easier. Not sure if the period it covers is longer, Soul Discography up to 1980 give or take. Not sure what period the R&B Indies covers? Personally think out is a great resource and a welcome addition to my shelves.
