california montage just been used on bbc 2 programme restored to glory seemed a strange choice.

I'm pretty sure that I've heard the track more than once on various promo's. It was certainly in a movie score - Paul Newman film rings a bell. Someone will correct me or confirm, I'm sure.

Levine or Curtis used to play it as last record in the Highland Room.

The Paul Newman film which uses California Montage is the dreary motor racing flick "Winning". The film score is by Dave Grusin and I'm pretty sure Mick Smith has stated on here that the soundtrack version was played at the Mecca as well as the obviously more soul-oriented version by Young-Holt which we have come to know and love.
