Barrovians were in at the beginnings of Northern Soul down in the damp neon lit cellars of the Twisted Wheel allnighter in Whitworth Street, Manchester.Those early young pioneers who had jobs at the shipyard, shops or offices in the town would often spend a weeks pay in one night buying rare black American dance 45s. They carried these precious vinyl gems home to Furness in old style British Rail compartments, crumbling second hand cars and occasionally hitch hiking from rain drenched slip roads off the M6.........
