Will this keep you out of Northern Soul heaven?

So.....you have a beautiful copy of a very big price tune you decide to sell. It's perfect in every way except for the fact that some previous custodian has written his initials on the 'A' side in biro....which makes it even worse in my book.(being on the 'A' side)

However, the initials are quite small...small enough in fact for one of those black stars some Radio Station DJ's used to stick on their records years and years ago...to cover the initials up completely.

Would you put a sticker on?

Would a sticker be less off-putting to most buyers than visible wol?(it would be to me)

Would it be a sin to do it?

If so...how big.....?

Would you still get into Norhtern Soul heaven or be damned for all eternity to listen to glam rock with the div's!!!

Initials or a sticker on the label wouldn't put me off a long time want.....but a defo no no to adding a sticker or covering up what's already there if your selling said tune.

Unless you're an obsessive compulsive typa person, then don't get too hung up on the odd label markings. It's par for the course, especially for records which are 40-50 years old. You're lucky to even get a decent copy in many cases. Yes, of course we'd all love unblemished labels but I'm just being practical......

some marking, probably not the one's your describing, can be quite evocotive and apealing, who was he or she? are they still living ect. I have a pressing with 'pete lawson' scrawled on it that I'd never part with even though I wasnt close to pete, he was one of the scene's beautiful, mental characters.

what color is the label? if it's white you can erase it with a regular pink eraser. That wouldn't be hiding anything, it would be restoring the label. If you got a book restorer to match the label color and color over the writing, I think that would classify as a permanent change that is also a restoration. I personally wouldn't do the stars, it involves defacing the record more to cover up previous defacing, and stickers can fall off.

I know that this isn't like rock solid reasoning, but at least it's not the "OVO" debate.

I'm not selling anything like this. I did however buy a Promo Arabians on LeMans recently and it has small initials on the 'Please Take a Chance' side. Did occur to me that a star sticker would be less ugly and that the wol made me hesitate a little before buying when a clean star sticker would have been less of a negative.

This provoked my mischievious question with a real 'biggy tune' as the example.....as I suspected, all SS'ers are a saintly bunch and Northern Soul heaven is going to be rammed!

use an eraser, you can definitely significantly reduce their appearance on the white label if you can't get rid of them entirely

people have told me they use art / kneaded erasers but I was never successful with them and I've torn off parts of the label doing that before.
