with the current MODERN SCENE! being so diverse and long may it stay that way! that being said so much great music! in this case..SOUTHERN SOUL! from small independant labels has such a short shelf life with regards too d.js playing them often enough too becoming CLASSICS! on the dancefloors! case in point 2 of my fav albums from last year! 1ST...TYRONE THOMAS..2ND..PATRICK GREEN..both have sum awesome! tracks on them my fav! being TYRONES "UR SO GOOD" this track is so soulfull and lifts you! and if played often enuff! wud in my humble oppinion be a modern classic! aswell as being an obvious across the board fav! aswell...WHATS YOUR VIEW?

My view is listening to Modern Soul makes you type in text speak

It appears to be more difficult to define southern soul lately imo. Sure you get stuff come out on Ecko and labels like that, which seem to be typical southern soul to my ears. A bloke a work considers Anthony Hamilton and Leela James to be southern soul - maybe? He's younger than me and I can see the distiction between them and other major label artists but it's not the southern soul I think of. I quite like it in small doses but think you have to sift through a lot of average stuff to get to the gems.

Ive picked up quite a few southern cd`s over the last few years. Mainly the better known labels such as Malaco and Bulls eye blues the odd one from Ecko. There is some very good stuff out there but you do have to sort through a lot to find it.

I was quite suprised that something like King Ernest ( Ernest Baker) "must have lost my mind" did`nt do better than it did especially when grapevine put it on 12". One that`s come out recently that Ive picked on 45 is Tutu Jones. The A side "cant leave your love alone" is from an album that came out a few years back and is good dancer in it`s own right but the flip which was previously unissued is a another good dancer too imo.

Likewise been trying to post up loads. Southern soul for me is realy where it is at these days !

In addition the older stuff is just wonderful !

have to agree with gavin for new soul releases! southern soul cuts the mustard!!!!! especially from a purist stand point...anyone intrested in obtaining sum of this quality music then contact baz maleady or mr lucas who are championing this genre!

Nice to see Southern Soul get a mention, not gonna be everyone's cuppa tea i must admit but it has got to have a place, and alot of great tunes are being missed,mainly because only being avaiable on cd,and not on a bit of black plastic.

I,m sure once the likes of Soul Sam get learn to how to put on a cd the" don't want it to it's big gang" may get behind a few new Southern Soul tracks and get heard by a wider audience.

On ending i would just like to add that there is a good number of people who get behind, play and recommend, good new Southern Soul, and one day many of these may,i hope get the recognition they deserve on the wider Soul Scene

Great track - Would like to see more tips esp. where there's a few cuts on CD's rather than the one traack wonders which seems to put a lot of people off buying some 21st century soul.
