One of the greatest joys of record collecting is finding (or should I re-discovering) a record you’ve had tucked away for years; a record you couldn’t actually recall the last time you ever played it; a record to be honest you couldn’t even remember what it sounded like — but on hearing it again you knew exactly why you’d bought it and kept it all these years.
The Ultimates on Capito; on a tiny not often talked label out of Detroit city; a lush midtempo group item from 1968.
After a bit o’ delving about on the internet (couldn’t stop myself) this is all I could find.
Capito Records, Detroit, Michigan 48207.
The Quinns “I Knew” 2:25 / “(It's) Been A Long Time” 2:22 (Capito C-2022)
Both sides written by D. McCants; both sides arranged and produced by Donald McCants & Larry Capito. A Marchioni Production. Dated 1966.
The Ultimates “Just Because You’ve Gone And Left Me” CA 2005 2:37 / The Quinns “Never Leave Me” CA 2006 2:50 (Capito C-2023) Dated 1968.
Both sides written and produced by Donald McCants & Larry Capito.
Sadly The Quinns on the flip side of this is just an instrumental, albeit slightly beefed up, of the vocal top side. Hope this isn’t an indication of what Capito 2022 sounds like.
Oh and if anybodies after a copy pretty sure Dolly13 was selling one on here only last month at a nice price.
