Sorry if this has already been discussed but I did try searching.

Obviously, an original and even 2nd pressing of Tainted Love is quite expensive, so if I wanted it just for listening pleasure, what should I buy? Would a Champion boot or one of the other labels have the best sound quality?

thanks in advance.

Original isn't that expensive is it? sure you could find a Champion one pretty cheap, quality wise always go for the one thats been licensed properly, they will on the whole have access to the masters/tapes etc.. boots generally dubbed from records I guess...and sound like it..

here's a good one, both sides: https://www.ebay.com/itm/GLORIA-JONES-Tainted-Love-SANDY-WYNNS-A-Touch-Of-Venus-Northern-Soul-7-45-/181534302717?pt=UK_Records&hash=item2a4449a1fd

chap that did it is on here in fact....so I'm sure he can vouch for the sound quality...

Cheers Mal. The geunine Champion pressings I have seen (2nd press) are around £50 which is too expensive for me.

there was a tainted love/ come go with me. released for this years record store day. sound quality excellent and cheap. Could be worth seeking out.

Thanks Toby, sounds perfect.

We mastered the Inferno release from a "Tainted Love" mixdown master tape sent over from AVI Records (who owned Champion) in LA and it was crystal clear. They also sent as a bonus a tape of Gloria's version of "A Touch Of Venus", done in the mid 60's, not the later re-record. Halfway through Gloria's starts giggling and the track grinds to a halt. Unfortunately the tapes went missing from a studio in Brownhills, near Walsall around 1981. But the Inferno single is superb sound quality.
