I just asked a us based seller about insured shipping to europe for a 700 usd record. Answer was approx. 70 usd. Does this seem about right ?

Assuming full insurance coverage up to £1000 sent as a large letter (most single 45 mailers will qualify) and your country is Germany (apologies if not but would be similar across EU). See below.

Try this ....           www.usps.com 

            Click on mail and ship and then calculate a price and you should get an idea of postage charges.

Yes I know but I was just trying to show you the equivalent UK post rate as you seemed surprised at the US rate.
