I just listened to my UK copy of 'every day' that I've had kicking around for a while and noticed its a completely different version with the backing vocals either removed or completely taken out, no bongos, other instruments are different, it was a great track anyway but this version is MUCH better to my ears. I guess this is old news to many but just wanted to post about it in case it's new to anyone else!

It’s the same with the A side, “Ol’ Man River” - they’re both missing the backing vocals you get on the “Teaches Old Standards New Tricks” LP. Like you, I prefer the more sparse UK 45 version. I wonder if it was deliberate or a long-forgotten cock-up?

Interesting. The fact that both are different makes me think it was maybe some sort of happy accident like they dropped some channels out.

The same happened with In The Basement by Sugar Pie & Etta James. No backing vocals, which I think gives it a harder edge

I have a black label release of Fontella Bass ,Rescue Me , must be the chart hit from 1965 CRS 8023  etc and a 1969 yellow Chess Promo CRS 8090 , that definitely has no backing vocals , and I thought I was going mad lol .
