The Zodiac 45 (1008) predates the Boo release (Brothers of Soul) and I wonder if it's the same recording. Looking at the ZTSC number, the Zodiac disc seems to have been released in early 1967 and I think the Boo 45 was released some time in 1968. 

The flip of the Zodiac 45 is Mary's House, which is different to the Boo 45, which has The Love I Found In You.

I'm in the process of editing an interview with Fred Bridges and would like to know the score. Fred mentions that Russ Teranna did a spoken intro' to - I think - Mary's House, using a British accent. I don't think I've heard this song and can't find it on YouTube.

Mary's House was re-issued on Zodiac 1011, but only credited to Bobby Eaton.

According to 'Rare_Soul_Searcher' member on datcogs this Zodiac 1008 release uses the exact same recording of 'come on back' on Boo. Confident enough to sound reliable I would say. Is it the same member (Quinvy pseudo) on here that uses the same Quinvy label 'dwarf' logo as avatar ?

PM him maybe to check that. And if it is maybe he has a copy of that Freddy & Bobby. Then that ZTSC 127199 of Freddy & Bobby 'come on back' on Zodiac 1008 throws it back early 1968 rather than early 1967. Zodiac 1006 Ruby Andrews 'hey boy' ZTSC 126906 already dates December 1967.

Then the previous release Zodiac 1007 of Ruby Andrews 'you can run (but you can't hide) ZTSC 127155 seems to date early 1968. Finally the Brothers of Soul 'the love I find in you' on Boo ZTSC 127393 (flipped with the re-release of 'come on back') dates July 1968. Little after Freddy & Bobby Ii believe.

But not by much I believe if we take into account the gap between the ZTSC 127199 (Freddy & Bobby) and ZTSC 127393 (Brothers of Soul) numbers. Like 2 to 4 months maximum I would believe. This just to clear all that. But you're right Freddy & Bobby on Zodiac predates the Brothers of Soul on Boo.

Thanks... dating ZTSC numbers is tricky, but it seems you have the ZTSC number wrong. It's 121799 & 121800 (not 127199)

I referenced Ric-Tic releases to get that Zodiac date, as I reckon Ric-Tic 45s can be dated relatively easily.

For example:

No Greater Love (ZTSC 121130) was the final Golden World 45 and got released around August 1966.

Can't Stop Looking For My Baby (ZTSC 121547) was the first the post-Golden World 45 on RicTic around Oct. 1966.

Ain't Love Wonderful came out around January 1967 (ZTSC 125728).

You Gave Me Something -  again Fantastc Four - (ZTSC 126078) I reckon came out in May 1967

These numbers make me believe the Zodiac 45 (ZTSC 121799) came out quite early in 1967.

You can see both copies (Zodiac and Boo) of Come On Back and Mary's House have the same ZTSC numbers, so they must be the same recordings, but with different labels attached.

Fred told me the group's name was created in July 1967, when riots broke out in Detroit and Soul Brother got painted on windows...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oops yep you're right. My bad. Somehow the datcogs added references for that matrix is wrong there (the label picture's resolution is not so good so I went for those) and so mines (picked there) were too...

But if these matrix attributed numbers can be hard to 'place' in time if ever 'come on back' it still doesn't make sense that this Zodiac 1008 would predate all of the other earlier releases of the labels.

Especially since those predating Zodiac 1004 of Ruby Andrews 'Casanova' (June 1967) were still changing labels design that only Zodiac 1004 established and used after for a while ; the blue one.

Maybe the Boo label release was first.

Roy 'Cortez' Butler also recorded Mary's House (Boo 1003). It has that British accent intro' I referred to and is on YouTube.

I would think not. You are right I believe about the Zodiac release being first. Especially since their HOT recording of 'the love I found in you' needed a flip for a rush release and likely they had no other new gear to stick to it's flip side and went on for this other quality tune 'come on back' stupidly credited a first time as Freddy & Bobby (so unsexy) whose sales was an all time bottom for the label judging by the numbers of copies floating around...

I have both and can confirm that the Zodiac and Boo recordings of "Come On Back" are the same. I'll dig out the Freddy & Bobby 45 this weekend to see if "Mary's House" has a spoken intro.
