I mentioned classic Oldies in my first reply before and that's a good route in to the original sounds. Generally if the event mentions 'as played at' Twisted Wheel, The Golden Torch, Wigan Casino/Mr

Sorry ,I just re read your original post & saw this ..'am still new to soul.' Another suggestion would be to go on to youtube. There's lots of different Soul playlists which could help you find yo
Hi everyone, could do with a bit of pointing in the right direction please. I'm Midlands based and am still new to soul. I have been to local venues which I have enjoyed and a couple of Blackpool spring events.
Recently I attended an event with a different sound which is not for me. I'm not sure if it was later music or the rare songs. For me, it's not so much about knowing the song, but I need to be familiar with the music. I prefer what I would describe as more upbeat......dare I say 'plinkerty plonk' 😬 I'm talking: A piece of leather (Donnie Elbert), One Wonderful moment (The Shakers), Gotta have your love (The Sapphires), with a bit of Ordinary Joe (Terry Callier), Lonely for you (Sam Dees) kind of feel.
So, what am I looking for in terms of info before I travel out to an event? Do I need to find DJs I like and follow them? Hints, tips and suggestions appreciated. Reluctant to throw money at travel and hotels without some more help.
Thanks!
