Gene Yarbrough - The Meeting Place part 1 & 2 (Jerma) Mint- £50
Have managed to prise the last two remaining copies from a US dealer who had a small quantity of store stock. I am inundated with enquiries every time I list this. Virtually unknown until very recently and whilst the A Side has a couple of YouTube entries, the far better part 2 has only recently been added courtesy of @BarrieWaddington aka @A45Heaven (who’s no bad judge of a 45 given he was responsible for discovering many of Stafford’s finest plays and plenty more before and after). A killer 45 IMHO and not easy to find, will be a three figure 45 now that all available copies have dried up and it’s getting plays (and given the names of those that have acquired a copy from me that is going to be very very soon!)
Little Joe And His Soul Brothers “Chick” - Groove/Here Comes The Night (Hot Cakes) Mint- £75
I’ve had a copy of this for about a year now (albeit for the brilliant ballad flip), but managed to pick up this spare recently. Proper full on funk edged northern that is bang on for now. Hard 45 (like others on this label), with only a handful through eBay and Discogs. Fantastic twofer!
Rhetta Hughes - You’re Doing It With Her (When It Should Be Me) (Tetragrammaton) Mint- £50
Finally a classic. A truly superb slab of funk edged sister soul from the pen of Jo Armstead and with arrangement by Mike Terry, the credits speak for themselves but even with that knowledge one listen and you’re hooked. A 45 that every home should have.
