I started a wants list on Discogs around 3 years ago and as normal you get a notification when one of your wants comes up for sale……or so I thought.

Checking my wants list yesterday I saw 3 records that had sold in recent months, all of which were on my wants list for various time durations. Some for 6 month others for 3 years. I didn’t recall seeing a notification for any of them, and I checked and confirmed this.

I should say I check the site 2 or 3 times a day.

Any idea what’s going on ? Am I missing something? Why am I not seeing the notification ?

Thanks

Andy

  • Your want could have sold on the same day as it was listed. If the sale went through before the daily email from Discogs goes out then you wont get notified that there was one for sale but the sales

I believe Discogs made some changes a while back to the way the wantlist feature works. Take a look here: https://www.discogs.com/about/features/wantlist and then under 'Realtime notifications' Looks

Some years ago I posted a few wants and then got notification of copies available from sellers who clearly targeted such listings with prices asking for stupid money. For that reason I went back to checking 2 or 3 times a day.

It's possible that Discogs' reformatted version is not as complete as its predecessor. Many of my Discogs mailbox records have just disappeared without any warning, more than once. That's annoying when, for example, I go looking for a mail delivery code sent via Discogs messaging. That's how quickly those communications can disappear.

Meanwhile, I did a random check on this title:

https://www.discogs.com/master/963931-Mighty-Pope-The-Mighty-Pope

It's fetching some decent money depending on condition and generosity of the seller. It says that there are 136 people on Discogs with a copy in their collection, and 390 who have it on their wants list. There's no record of average sale price, lowest sale price, highest sale price, last time sold, etc.

Yet when I go to the page for this rather suspect French compilation, it's all there:

https://www.discogs.com/release/4055995-Various-Magnetik-Soul-Collector-1

As was discussed on here a while back, I don't think Discogs' recent makeover has been successful. My suspicion is that some of the added features demand too much processing power and/or memory so cuts elsewhere are being made to compensate for that. Better informed people can confirm or deny.

The link you put up for the Mighty Pope album is for the master release which consists of three different releases, you need to click on one of these to get the sales history.

Thanks guys. I've checked my notification preferences and its all ticked as it should be. It could be they are selling quickly and being removed and I'm just missing it.

The 3 records I checked all sold and the low, average and high selling prices are there and when the last sale was.

One other thing I found out was when I received a notification on an item or items, there is also the "show all" underneath this. I've clicked this and saw that there were other wants for sale which had not been notified.

So lessons learned ...dont just look at the item(s) notification ensure you "show all".
