My brother in law was a local DJ and a huge record collector. I was just a kid but he turned me on to things like The Poets, Spellbinders, Donald Height etc around 1970. In those days they were simply known as "good disco records".

He used to sneak me into his gigs and I'd hide in the kitchens just to soak up the vibe. When I was old enough I hit my first all dayer, and it mushroomed.

What's your story?

Funny how Russ gets stick on here,  his place on the scene deserves more respect than people show. He's not on the scene now,

Wasn't he at Wolverhampton the other week playing records - I am sure I saw it posted on here.... :sleep3:

I thought that he had a regular (weekly gig???) in Nottingham & didn't they have the Flirtations on at Christmas?

BTW Liked the Instrumental on the Scene gag but surely Simon Soussan should get some credit for some of those instrumentals :sleep3:

My mates brother was going to the casino and stopping out all night and then sleeping in bed all day, then a few years later i lend a tape and think it's all rubbish, then about a dozen plays later, i'm getting hooked....things like Donnie Burkes "Satifaction Guarenteed", Major Lance "The Beat", Yum Yums etc......

Started attending Clifton Hall early 80's, and finally plucked up courage to dance to my then favourite track James Lewis "Thats The Way" (c/up as you know, The Q on Hound), was about 17 then and have always tried to attend events through the following years sometimes more than others. Always loved collecting records, used to go to a local shop called Violet Mays where the Northern box was kept behind the counter, and just about got all those songs from that original tape from all those years back.

And is he still bitter about the fact that he never got the credit he deserved for sending Russ all those unknowns over?
