Maybe this is a male thing, I don't know, but it only occurred to me today that when it comes to my favourite Soul spins I prefer solo male performers to female performers, but vastly prefer girl groups to male groups

Strange thing is though - I can reel off any number of male vocal groups (but can't list anywhere near as many female groups) and seem to think that maybe male groups edge it when it comes to "success" (with the exception of The Supremes of course!); however, when it comes to the groups I think the women are a country mile ahead of the guys when it comes to quality!

What do you reckon - do guys generally prefer girl groups? Do the "laydees" prefer male vocal groups?.....or is this just a pointless quaetion on a slow Sunday evening?

Well I'm a lady (last time I looked ). Yes, I generally much prefer male groups to female groups

...and I also prefer female solo artists to male solo artists.

I've also found that those dreadful pop sounding male northern soul records are generally preferred by men

and those glorious soul floaters are often preferred by women

Was playing some tracks at my house last Friday night, mixed company. The girls there seemd to prefer my choices of records, predominantley female and the blokes kept pulling the male vocal stuff out of my box to play...................

I have to be different Male vocal groups and male solo singers edge it for me, but that's not to say that female solo singers don't get a look in. It's just that girl groups haven't got the range of vocals that male groups have, so whilst their voices blend well, they don't harmonise. Look at the Temptations, Melvin Franklin one end and Eddie Kendrick the other. Can anyone give me a similar example of a girl group ?
