Hi All!

Going to Amsterdam on a stag weekend in a two weeks. Will spend most of the nights getting drunk and such like, but are there any decent record shops we can visit during the day.

If walk the lanes on the opposite side of the red light area there are quite a few record/book shops to browse through. They have many 'specialist' shops so follow the 'shoppers'. You will stumble upon them all over the place.

SUGGEST YOU LOOK FOR A BOOK CALLED "THE ROUGH GUIDE TO AMSTERDAM" (CHEAP)

ITS GOT SHOPS ETC ETC IN THERE, WELL WORTH IT

THINK THERES A MARKET NEAR THE TRAIN STATION THAT HAD RECORDS

My friend Bart is on here ( Runs the excellent "Struttin" soul night at the Bitterzoet club near Centraal station...

Best record shop by a mile is a shop called "Waxwell" near Dam square, my mate eedeecee has posted the address on here a couple of times, maybe worth a "search" if you can't find the thread(s) then let me know and I'll get my Amsterdam A-Z out.

I was there in February and found several stalls at the following flea market selling records, some nice looking stuff. Stupidly i decided not to drag my wife and parents round so i decided i would go back later for a good rummage....guess what, ended up going somewhere else and never got near them again.

THANKS ALL for the help. I have two mates going who are also keen record collectors so will certainly try to get to these places. If i found anying interesting i will add it on to this thread when i get back.

If you go to www.fingerpoppinsoul.nl and click on The Impressions "This Is My Country" picture sleeve they list their top ten record shops in Holland (including Waxwell ) with adresses. Happy hunting

P.S. When are you going ? Theres some sorta northern/mod night on in Amsterdam this Friday

To be honest I thought it was pretty poor, maybe a few bits if you are into jazz and breaks and such like, but for soul I did'nt find much worthwhile at all.

Was more than happy spending the day in the cafes with the missus so no complaints.
