offered the single-sided demo of this to a mate the other day & he said he preferred the version without the backing vocals. are there different takes of this then?

There is a different version on the Chess Rhythm and Soul CD... sounds very crisp in comparison to the 45 version.

Not aware of the demo's being anything but the usual mix of the 45.

Jazzman records put it out b/w california soul (JM.032) a while back and may be the other version you mention.
