Can someone explain the island sound to me, referring to what some older Jamaican record buyers from New York, Miami, etc seem to be looking for? There are a handful of guys who frequent some of the same spots in Atlanta that I shop but I can't quite pin down what they're looking for.

No, it's definitely R&B they're after, and the closest I've come up with is possibly something close to Belgian popcorn, but that's not quite the sound. The guys who are buying it around here are very secretive too, probably for fear or rising prices.

Ballads - yes, that seems to be right. Thanks for the pointer to Manship's. I hadn't noticed it was there before I guess.

WOULDNT MIND "ISLAND SOUNDS" BEING POSTED UP SAY IN THE JAMAICAN SECTION.

Jamaican collectors do favour the beat ballad style...

There were so many versions of american soul records covered by reggae artists.

The originals of these are much sought after and often very obscure.
