I have been asked by a girl at work if I take out public liability insurance when I hold my Northern doos. She's asking this because she went to a gig put on by an independent promoter at a club venue and slipped on an ice cube on the dance floor and broke her leg. She is making a compensation claim but her solicitor has informed her that the guy who runs the night is liable (not the owner) although he only takes the money and holds neither the music or drinks licence. Told her I had never thought about it so wondered what other promoters out there do - and is anyone aware of the legal implications if someone did have a serious accident at a venue. Lets face it, with the amount of talc (and drink) on the floor at some venues something like this could happen (or may have already done so.)
