Its the drill hole you see through the label on some 45s

does it affect value on more expensive 45s?

not really, often collectors can't be so choosy. Dealers will often say if there is a bb hole but rarely if ever does it affect the price, some dealers don't even mention the fact there is a bb hole.

Casting back to my early days of buying US imports, I just felt that they just added to the charm and mystique of owning them, like the alternative "gold star" occasionally stamped onto the label - and that abnormally large centre hole! Weird!

gold star????????????????????

Oliver_45-OLR-2002b.jpg-This one has Gold Star over the "V" In Oliver.

Found mainly on ABC Related Labels.

Gordy_G-7055a.gif-

Gordy_G-7055a-1.gif-Identical other than the Bb Hole.

Price normally about the same - Could be difficult to collect a Label without the odd Bb Hole here and there.

Motown_M-1156a_DJa.gif-Nothing wrong with this - Definitely Original, but Unusual.

DEMO Copies Under Normal Circumstances should NOT have a Bb Hole.

The Gold Paint or Bb Hole only applied to Stock Copies

It was a way to stop resale of Deleted / returned records at FULL PRICE second time around.

In the same way L.P. Covers are Clipped or have Bb Hole.

rong with this

...and deleted records on the MOTOWN label, as we established a few threads ago! :(

If they're genuine "BB" (ball bearing) holes, does that mean that some bubblegum chewing kid was employed to actually shoot a 'B.B. gun' at piles of old records?

I know that freckle-faced American kids were fond of their facsimile Winchester rifles and hunting guns back in the 60s*, but really... :)

(B.B firing guns "...just like your dad's" were always advertised in the back pages of the Superman comics I read as a child)*
