Frequent flyer with Etihad (National Airline of the United Arab Emirates); you get loads of Middle Eastern and Asian channels (most of them sounding like the background music at my local Indian Restaurant ) but no real soul channels.

On their interactive entertainment system consoles you have access to hundreds of CDs of various genres. In the Easy Listening section I found a Nina Simone CD and listened to that. On it there are stunning versions of Nina's takes on 'Young Gifted and Black' and 'Do What You Gotta Do' - check those out if you get the chance - very different, but extremely soulful.

I believe the Jan 15th flight 1549 New York to Charlotte , North Carolina, played Marlena Shaws 'Wade in the water' and Jackie Shanes 'Comin' down' during their brief, yet bumpy flight.

More soul tunes were apparently due to be aired (unlike the plane)

(before anyone has a moan, we all know everyone survived, so I'm joking about a miracle, not a disaster)

On Singapore Airlines, last year they had some nice Jazz stuff on and a bit of Soulful House, In the next fortnight I'll be on them to Sydney so I will delve more!
