Mr Shard's comment about me and keeping diaries over in AATS prompted me to dig out a couple from the years when I really did slavishly adhere to the practice of filling 'em in on a daily basis.

Between 1977 and 1980 I was particularly active, mostly because I was going to an unbeliveable amount of gigs and knocking back the ale a lot, and I wanted to remember the next morning what I did the previous night..

Sadly most of my diaries seem to have vanished into the ether now, but '78 and '80 have survived, so I thought I'd open them each at a page and scan the results for your amusement/boredom/whatever.

Here's some drunken scrawl from 1978:

...by 1980 I'd dumped all the personal stuff and just got it down to a list of 'bands seen per month'. Looking at this page in partcular, where I only stayed in four nights in a month, I wonder where I got the money from, never mind the energy...

...and this was a typical month with nothing special about it!

Anyone else got any back pages that they would like to share for posterity?

I see you were a big fan of Margo Random & The Space Virgins.

Who were they?

" Build it ( well , sort of ) and they will come "

MR and the SVs were a three piece power trio, one American girl (Margo) and two English guys. Kind of like the Pretenders only with one less member. Margo was a really good songwriter and they did have one record out, "South Of the River Thames", but they played it much better live. I also saw them five times in a little less than two weeks at the beginning of May - on one occasion, (May 1st) supporting Mud! - and then I never saw them again for some reason. Don't know why, as I don't remember going off them...
