I know retired people who lived off the intrest on their savings but are now having to spend thier savings....

It's hit most people... I know by friends in the building trade there work is drying up as the office workers (London) are losing there jobs and not spending so its having a knock on to the building trade...

I had lunch today with a couple of friends and one said they have stoped spending because they feel bad for friends of thiers who have been hit
