A new vinyl release from Outta Sight Records hits the stores... Titled 'Russ Winstanley's Heart Of Northern Soul' this lp is billed as 16 Casino Anthems chosen by Russ Winstanley and is available now, details follow below The blurb - read and listen Listen Read Russ Winstanley's HEART OF NORTHERN SOUL OSVLP016 WIGAN CASINO MEMORIES... As we approach the 45th Anniversary of the legendary Wigan Casino Soul Club in 2018, Outta Sight presents the perfect prelude with 16 Casino anthems chosen by Russ Winstanley!!! In the early hours of a September morning in 1973, a huge World War 1 building tentatively opened its doors to the cult followers of an underground dance scene. The unfashionable Casino Club was open for business for its first-ever Northern Soul All-Nighter. Little could the promoters have realised the phenomenon they were creating – a phenomenon that would put Wigan and the Casino on the map, not only across the length and breadth of Britain but also in Europe and America. For eight years, the Wigan Casino all-night Northern Soul sessions achieved fame, notoriety and, eventually, legendary status among youngsters all over Britain. It was loved by each of its 100,000 members, voted the world’s best disco by the American-based magazine Billboard and started its own record label and magazine. Its DJs unearthed rare 1960s American soul recordings and launched them into the national pop charts, reviving the careers of many black artists. Now, as we approach the club’s 45th anniversary, the timeless music and nocturnal lifestyle created by Wigan Casino is enjoying a massive revival as former Casino-goers and many new soul fans are once again filling all-night clubs and Northern Soul Weekenders. Russ Winstanley, who first conceived the idea for the Wigan Casino all-nighters, was voted Britain’s number one disco DJ three times, he has been a contributory factor in many chart successes and has worked tirelessly to promote Northern Soul. Here Russ has selected Casino classics and personal favourites, many of which he played for the first time. SIDE 1 Yvonne Baker – You Didn't Say A Word Bobby Freeman – I'll Never Fall In Love Again Lou Pride – I'm Com'Un Home In The Morn'un Al Wilson – Help Me The Jades – I'm Where It's At The Invitations – Skiing In The Snow Stemmons Express – Woman, Love Thief Gerri Granger – I Go To Pieces (Everytime…) SIDE 2 Alice Clark – You Hit Me (Right Where It Hurts Me) Johnny Caswell – You Don’t Love Me Anymore Ben Aiken – Satisfied Cindy Scott – I Love You Baby The Cherry People – And Suddenly Cobblestone – Trick Me, Treat Me Mike McDonald – God Knows Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’77 – Love Music https://outtasight.ecwid.com/#!/Russ-Winstanleys-HEART-OF-NORTHERN-SOUL/- Durand Jones & The Indications - True Love

The follow on says it all really... From Daptone recent news of a remastered pressing of the ever so fine lp If This World Were Mine Ten years ago we were excited to release an archival collection of the sweetest soul from upstate New York in the 1960s; Bob & Gene's If This World Were Mine.... The beautifully packaged LP sold out quickly and has remained out-of-print ever since. It’s stature has grown over the years and is, these days, a desirable but hard-to-find record for fans of sweet soul. So to respond to the demand of soul fans worldwide we’re releasing a remastered pressing of If This World Were Mine... for all of those who missed out on this sensational album the first time around, this time with TWO bonus cuts, "I Really Love You" and "It's Not What You Know (It's Who You Know)." In 1967, two teenage friends, Bobby Nunn and Eugene Copland, were the stars of Mo Do Records; a Buffalo, NY label run by Bobby’s dad, William Nunn. As BOB & GENE they recorded several sides for the label along with other local gospel and soul artists and the dozen or so 45s on Mo Do play back with unconventional humanity and anomalous presence. William’s dream of a Bob & Gene album would never be realized in his lifetime, but in February 2007 we jumped at the chance to pull together these sweet and soulful recordings into an album that’s remained a Daptone favorite ever since. A decade later and we’re thrilled that it’s back in the racks at your favorite purveyor of soulful platters. HI Keith not sure why, maybe not plugging it hard enough yep sure could be, as with all things the integration can be tailored to reflect the use etc at the moment the stores show on the classified index page but if gets used this can be expanded- Curr: The Flying Stars Of Brooklyn NY - My God Has A Telephone
worth a lazy midweek pass on https://www.coleminerecords.com Debut solo single from Aaron Frazer of Durand Jones & The Indications. Aaron’s super sweet, silvery falsetto was featured on “Is It Any Wonder?” on The Indications’ debut LP, but Aaron steps out here with some lowdown gospel soul with some help from friends including Eli Paperboy Reed.- Poll: Version Battle - These Things Will Keep
as you say it wont affect the outcome it was a simple attempt to encourage more members to take part in a 'just for fun' poll, thats all- Poll: Version Battle - These Things Will Keep
not sure what you mean Pete thinking was that as some have said in past polls they didn't vote as they couldnt choose which one to pick, then by allowing multi-choice - eg can select both if wish - it should have increased the participation (and the fun) without affecting the result... in theory- Site Record Grading System Plus Common Abbreviations
Site Record Grading System Plus Common Abbreviations M- As good as it gets, practically an untouched record that plays as if it were brand new store stock VG++The odd barely discernible surface mark or minor blemish, nothing that will affect play in any way. VG+ A few more marks or light scuffs than a VG++ record but still sounds fine for listening and/or DJing. No scratches.Light surface wear. A used but far from abused copy. VG Scuffs and light scratches throughout, most can't be felt. Expect some surface wear throughout the record with light surface noise and possibly a few pops in places. Should still serve as a suitable player copy for listening & DJing. VG- The record may have some scratches that will be deep enough to feel. Audible clicks and pops are likely consistent throughout the grooves.Expect noticeable noise throughout, NO SKIPS though. G A record that has been played and not taken care of. Constant background noise will be present. NO SKIPS but such records are the lowest grade likely to still serve as a cheap filler copy for those in need In addition it is recommended that any label blemishes such as tears, stickers, writing are also listed alongside vinyl condition and where appropriate a play grade is stated if it does not correspond with the visual grade, such as cue burn or styrene hiss. And of course that both sides of the record are taken into consideration.- Poll: Version Battle - These Things Will Keep

Thanks to member Rod @modernsoulsucks we have word of the 'Atlas Obscura' web site taking a look at our very own 'wondrous and curious' cover up phenomena. For those not aware the 'Atlas Obscura' web site bills itself as ... Atlas Obscura is the definitive guide to the world's wondrous and curious places. In an age where everything seems to have been explored and there is nothing new to be found, we celebrate a different way of looking at the world. If you're searching for miniature cities, glass flowers, books bound in human skin, gigantic flaming holes in the ground, bone churches, balancing pagodas, or homes built entirely out of paper, the Atlas Obscura is where you'll find them. and while you could argue that northern soul cover ups may not be on the same scale for the wtf factor as' balancing pagodas' they have made it sound quite interesting The article is titled.. Why British DJs From the ’60s and ’70s Kept Their Best Records Secret The art of the “cover-up” once led an obscure Marvin Gaye record to be misidentified for decades. BY ASHAWNTA JACKSON SEPTEMBER 26, 2017 and can be read here http://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/how-marvin-gaye-became-jj-barnes- Blue-eyed Soul?
Hi Carl Did ask people to start a new topic if they wish to talk about other topics, rather than take this topic down various different roads if you look up to the top of the page there is a 'start new topic' button, just hit that and you be good to go though freebasing may be better suited cheers mike- Valerie Simpson thread
