  1. 100 Club Allnighter Tonight - Canceled View full article
  2. Sat Feb 15th 2014 all nighter cancelled Due to a combination of unfortunate events but mainly due to a licensing problem we have had to cancel tonight's event. Missing the January date threw me and the club, independently of each other, and we did not apply for the license in time. This would have been salvageable if it had not been for the licensing authorities announcing a visit this weekend and them not turning up on Friday so it would have been tonight and we therefore would have had to shut at 3 am, leaving a lot of nighter attendees frustrated. To make matters worse, I contracted gastro enteritis at 1am this morning and would not have been able to run the event and Keith Money rang up from Scotland yesterday saying he could not get down due to the weather. Others have said the weather would have stopped them attending. Rather than run a patched up dance from 11pm-3am I have decided to cancel it. If anyone has run up any pre-booked train expenses or hotels I will refund some or all of the money depending on circumstances. Please pass this message on to anyone who might be attending Ady: ady.croasdell@btinternet.com

  14. The Guardian Does Popcorn View full article
  15. A look at the 'Popcorn Scene' could be read in the Guardian yesterday and while its a mainstream take it read quite well to me. A few preview clips... Belgium's 'Popcorn': the last underground music scene in Europe Antwerp's answer to northern soul has a drowsy, decadent vibe and its DJs favour eclecticism, jive music and playing records at the wrong speed. Bob Stanley gets into its strange groove ... DJ plays Eartha Kitt, the Skatalites, something that sounds like a northern soul record at the wrong speed. The atmosphere is friendly but exclusive, and the musical mood dark and opulent. This is a Belgian Popcorn club. ... really do have the wrong idea about Belgium," says Bill Brewster, the author of Last Night a DJ Saved My Life. "Musically, it's been far more innovative than people give it credit for, possibly due to the push and pull of the Flemish and French split.. Here's the link... http://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2014/feb/05/belgium-popcorn-underground-music-scene-europe-northern-soul The documentary featured. purist Feb 07 2014 01:49 PM worth reading/watching, although like the northern scene I suspect you really need to live it to fully get it. Having said that I have come to really enjoy a lot of Popcorn tunes in the last 15 years or so. TailorMade Gaz B Feb 09 2014 01:13 PM The very first Manchester European Soul weekender started off with a popcorn day. It was fantastic. pikeys dog Feb 11 2014 03:32 AM The article mentions the "Kingpin" in Sheffield, this is a miss-print, it should read "King Bee". DooWopShopper Feb 11 2014 09:37 AM Let's hope, the popcorn scene will not be detected and exploited by hipsters and fashion victims 😄 However, I like to mix up popcorn with Norhern Soul and Rockabilly - just good "Oldies": 😉 https://de-de.facebook.com/ChillsFever

  17. Surviving The Decades: 8 soul groups journey through their 50 year careers by Steve Whittaker I just stumbled on this recent release via Amazons Kindle store Kindle Price: £3.58 includes VAT* & free wireless delivery via Amazon Whispernet Length: 309 pages (estimated) The online preview below seems flawed but you can get one sent to your kindle before buying. Press Blurb Surviving The Decades is eight short biographies of soul music groups who have battled to stay in the music industry, their road has often been dogged by bankruptcy, false promises, racism, and non-payment of royalties. They learnt their craft the hard way, which no TV reality show can ever teach you. 50 years is a long time in a business which takes no prisoners. Success usually came after years on the "chittlin" circuit and travelling hundreds of miles, but then to adapt to new musical trends and technology, now that to me, takes some doing.

  23. Ady Croasdell - Play Box Mix View full article
  24. A Sunday Afternoon ear treat Thanks are earned by Kieran Lockyear for putting this all together Here's the words from the Mixcloud post... Big thanks to Ady Croasdell for the 66th "Straight From The Play Box" mix. Ady Croasdell aka Harboro Horace was an aspiring mod in 1966 when he fell in love with music of all kinds. Though mainly going to underground and psychedelic gigs, he loved black music (initially country blues) and heard classic Stax, Atlantic and Motown singles played at the local dances where his Market Harborough mod/skinhead gang went. An “Old Soul” all nighter in a disused railway station in the middle of the countryside (not even near the village), which he happened on by chance in 1969, lead to a love and interest in Mid-60s soul sides. He started collecting, then dealing (records not pills), then promoting then DJing, then record compiling for Kent in 1982. Kent Records has been running for 30 years now. He has run the 6TS at the 100 Club soul all nighters for over 30 years and the 6TS Northern Soul Weekender in Cleethorpes for over 20. See Website for more details: http://www.6ts.info/ http://www.mixcloud.com/beatsofmusic/ady-croasdell-straight-from-the-play-box/ check Kierans other mixes - ear fun http://www.mixcloud.com/beatsofmusic/ Prophonics 2029Feb 02 2014 04:55 PM I like the Toussaint McCall track and that Demures!!!!!!!!!!! Russ Vickers likes this mikeFeb 03 2014 09:05 AM more on the underlying project as said many times on here (too many times) if you have got news/word of projects like this, then pass it on via the news article feature eg post it up look right and then up for link to submit news/words etc corbett80Feb 03 2014 03:42 PM Wikkid sounds from the bossman ady croasdellFeb 04 2014 12:10 PM didn't have much idea of what a mixcloud was and am still reasonably ignorant. I thought it was just for people with 28" waistlines. ClearVinylFeb 04 2014 04:19 PM Some super sounds on there Ady - which, if, when are tracks being committed to vinyl pray tell ?? ady croasdellFeb 04 2014 09:49 PM September Jones in a couple of weeks, toussaint McCall in a few months and I'm still finalising plans on some of the others. I didn't do this as a Northern mix, there's more R and B and Popcorn than I'd normally play at the 100 Club ClearVinyl likes this Like
