Ain't Too Proud to Beg: The Troubled Lives and Enduring Soul of the Temptations
Ain't Too Proud to Beg: The Troubled Lives and Enduring Soul of the Temptations News of a new book by Mark Ribowsky, entitled Ain't Too Proud to Beg: The Troubled Lives and Enduring Soul of the Temptations. The hard cover edition is due out in Oct 2010 and is now available to pre-order via the usual outlets. Ain't Too Proud to Beg: The Troubled Lives and Enduring Soul of the Temptations Written by Mark Ribowsky who was responsible for recent books on Stevie Wonder, The Supremes and Phil Spector Press blurb: The Temptations are an incomparable soul group, with dozens of chart-topping hits such as My Girl and Papa Was a Rollin Stone. From the sharp suits, stylish choreography, and distinctive vocals that epitomized their onstage triumphs to the personal failings and psycho-dramas that played out behind the scenes, Ain′t Too Proud to Beg tells the complete story of this most popular "and tragic "of all Motown super groups. Based on in-depth research and interviews with founding Temptations member Otis Williams and many others, the book reveals the highly individual, even mutually antagonistic, nature of the group′s members. Venturing beyond the money and the fame, it shares the compelling tale of these sometime allies, sometime rivals and reveals the unique dynamic of push and pull and give and take that resulted in musical genius. The first book to tell the whole story of Motown′s greatest group, with all-new interviews and previously undiscovered sources and photographs Gives the last word on enduring Motown mysteries, including the deaths of Paul Williams and David Ruffin and the truth behind Ruffin′s tumultuous romance with Tammi Terrell Reveals the secret "can′t miss" formula behind the Temptations′ thirty-seven chart hits Draws on more than one hundred interviews with the group′s associates, industry figures, family members, and most importantly, founding Temptation Otis Williams Ain′t Too Proud to Beg takes a cohesive and penetrating look at the life and enduring legacy of one of the greatest groups in popular music. It is essential reading for fans of the Temptations, music lovers, and anyone interested in the history of American popular culture over the last fifty years. David Hudson - The Royal Sessions - Soul Junction LP - Out Now
David Hudson "The Royal Sessions" A late summer monday morning is the day choosen by those Soul Junction types for the official release date of the launch of their latest offering. Their last two 45 releases were both sell outs and while this release is a return to the lp format this one could make it three in a row. If you enjoyed last years David Hudson Soul Junction single (Girl I'm Coming Home To) Something Good (which is the opening track of this lp - it certainly pushed all the buttons right here) you will be pleased to know that this release features yet more previously unreleased tracks from the very same studio sessions which were recorded at the Royal Sound Studios in Memphis during 1989/90 The track listing and featured clips follow below, the lp comes complete with a "Tribute to Willie Mitchell" written by Elliott Harris David Hudson "The Royal Sessions" SLJP5002 SIDE A 1. (Girl I'm Coming Home To)Something Good 2. Let's Make Love 3. Be That Way Sometimes 4. You're My Dream Come True SIDE B 1. When I'm Loving You 2. All My Love 3. (Girl I'm Coming Home To)Something Good (Radio Edit) 4. The Best Is Yet To Come sample clips https://www.soul-source.co.uk/uploads/davidhudsonclip.mp3 Soul Junction Press Notes: David Hudson has always been held in very high regard for the excellent southern soul releases which he recorded for the Alston and Waylo labels respectively. It was during his time with Waylo that David was placed under the auspicious of producer Willie "Pops" Mitchell at his Royal Sound Studios In Memphis. Under Willie's guidance, David recorded his excellent 1987 album "Nite And Day" of which 3 tracks would later gain a 45 release. A further album project was planned but before it could be completed the Waylo label had decided to pull out of the Royal Sound Studios, thus leaving the project uncompleted. A total of eight tracks (with a long and short version of one of the songs) had been laid down but were left to gather dust in the vaults. That is until now, so after over 20 years of anonymity you finally have before you David Hudson's forgotten "Royal Sound Sessions". We have decided to release the album on the format that it was originally intended to have been released on at the time, good old fashioned vinyl. Enjoy!! List Type Threads
can be a enjoyable things and get some good decent interesting discussion going if they have a bit of thought behind them and if posted in the right place however if they just turn in to some sort of list fest eg type a track - post it type a track - post it type a track - post it type a track - post it with hardly any discussion, then to be blunt they dont really do that much apart from clog the forum up especially when there may be another 1 or 2 going at the same time ask give them a bit of thought, try and post them in right place and if replying then try and add a bit of meat to your post as in tell us all why you have added it thanks mike

Northernsoul Ep's
yeah actual volume is the obvious difference speed is supposed to be a factor as well - 45rpm being choosen as a standard as it was the optimun speed own ears would say the quality difference is notable guess you could argue that has to be, other wise they wouldn't have bothered as said, anyone got one of them clips from some geek-audio site that lays it all down in black and white ?

Echoes - The Northern Soul Fans Weekly Fix

Northernsoul Ep's
anyone here got a link or clip explaining the actual audio differences that cramming the tracks on to 7 inch format (eg the grooves closer) makes i could have a go but sometimes my way of explaining things aint as good as the experts would say it is something to consider espically with 45 rpm eps

Just one of those irregular upcoming allnighters this weekend shouts. You may be pleased to know that apart from the image I have fought off the temptation to fill this shout with 102 wordplays to tie in with the premier league season kick off. Top 4s, newly promoted, new grounds, internationals, veterans, back of the net.... ack I could have had a field day. Two allnighters this weekend First up is the ever monthly 100 Club Allnighter Ady passed on a brief pre-match interview few words with word on tickets and a new play to watch out for This Saturday sees the long awaited return of Irish Greg to the club where he was resident for many years. Ady C has a new piece of Rhythm & Soul (actual) vinyl to unleash for the first time and tickets for the monumental 31st Anniversary all nighter go on sale; grab them while you can! full details can be found via the event guide (link in forum thread) forum thread for chat Next up is The New BARNSLEY ALLNIGHTER @ Birdwell Venue a new ground venue for this one (check out event guide for map/street map) Simon and Amie passed on Now in a superior venue, the allnighter will run in a one-room format. Spun for you on the night by top DJs Andy Dyson, Roger Banks (Birthday boy), Dave Rivers, Karl Heard, Geoff Rudd, Callum, Errol Green and Simon McMaster. We will also be collecting for the British Heart Foundation charity in memory of LIz who some of you may have met at the Citrus Rooms. A Cellarful Of Motown Volume 4 - Out September 2010 As may have read in the forums, the eagerly awaited fourth voulme of this series is due out very soon. The release date was orignally touted as mid-aug but on sales sites which have it available for pre-order it seems that the date has been pushed back till the begining of September. 50 tracks, double cd and available to pre-order now for just £8.99 from hmv and amazon uk (links below) http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=12;1;59;17;5&sku=131003) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cellarful-Motown-Vol-4/dp/B003XDV3HA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1281551396&sr=1-1 non uk - its showing at $23.49 pre-order via amazon US (link below) http://www.amazon.com/Vol-4-Cellarful-Motown/dp/B003XDV3HA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1281210066&sr=8-3 here's the blurb from the hmv website The Superb 4th Instalment of The Acclaimed Lost & Found Series, featuring 50 Stunning Never Heard Before Motown Treasures from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Brenda Holloway, Marvin Gaye, Edwin Starr, The Spinners Plus Many More. Also included in the 2 disc set is a beautifully designed 20 page booklet with detailed sleeve notes and annotations by Motown connoisseur Paul Nixon plus gorgeous original photos from the Motown photo archive. With no sign of the goodies drying up in the Motown Vaults, it's with great pleasure, after exhaustive research that we bring you the fourth volume in this stunning series that can proudly boast the release in total of over 200 vaulted examples of Detroit's finest sounds that astonishingly never made it past the recording studio. Featured are the usual 'out on the floor' thumping Motown scorchers plus newly discovered ballads and sophisticates. Some of the greatest discoveries on this collection include an amazing unheard classic 'Why Don't You Come Home' recorded in 1968 by the young music genius Stevie Wonder. Also featured is an absolute stomper 'Born To Be Bad' from UK Favourite Edwin Starr and possibly the most special discovery of all, an undeniable 1963 classic 'Three Times Loser' by the incredible Marvin Gaye, proving that despite the declaration that just about every vaulted Gaye track has been discovered, the Cellarful series continues to unlock a piece of music history. Both Brenda Holloway and Barbara McNair close a CD each with examples of how artists explored their repertoire while there are more than enough core Motown floor fillers to excite and seduce the staunchest Motown fan. This sensational 2 disc set proves that the Quality Control team at Motown potentially missed many great recording that could have become huge hits. The mystery remains as to how these fantastic gems were consigned to the Motown Vaults, but their loss is your gain some 40 years down the road! We defy you to keep your feet still as you listen to these newly restored treasures that have been lovingly rescued thanks to the grace of modern technology. Disc One 1. Kidnapped-The Blackberries 2.
