  3. Sad News Norman Whitfield RIP View full article
  4. Sad News Norman Whitfield RIP Norman Whitfield passed on last Tuesday. Rightly deserving the acclaim of one the most influential writers/producers, he was responsible for producing and writing some of the most renowned songs through out the 60s and 70s. He passed on aged 67 in Los Angles from diabetes complications after surfacing from a coma Yet another soul legend gone An Obituary can be read via the link below from The Independent Website In between working in a service station and hustling pool, Whitfield played percussion on recordings by Popcorn and The Mohawks and began hanging around Motown's premises. In 1961, he scored a local hit with "I've Gotten Over You", and Gordy started to take him more seriously, offering him $15 a week to work for Motown in 1962. Whitfield was nominally in charge of appraising white labels without knowing who the artist was. He was competing with Holl-and/Dozier/Holland and Robinson when trying to place his songs with the label's artists. "There was a certain tenaciousness inside of me, something that would always drive me to make something very special," he said..... .......asked which of his compositions he favoured, Whitfield tended to ignore "Grapevine" and plump for "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby", a 1969 hit for Marvin Gaye, or "Ooh Boy", one of Rose Royce's dozen or so hits in the late 1970s. ... "The people make the songs what they are," he said. "As writers, we only do what we do and then we have to give it to the public. They're the ones who determine if you're a genius or a failure." http://www.independent.co.uk/news/obituaries/norman-whitfield-songwriter-and-producer-who-added-a-political-edge-to-motown-934145.html Thanks to Hitsville Chalky for keeping us informed during recent weeks
  5. late nite reminder can not allow mp3 requests/sharing due to copyright issues that could affect the site if have a wish to hear a certain then just ask for the clip and sure someone if can will upload it to refosoul thanks mike
  6. ok going to drop the recent member related posts in a moment as member not got access and it doesnt really help things ok posts removed know it was a bit of a laugh but due to above think may be better

  8. third and the final time asking you to leave this out
  9. jock as posted last nite the site has took action if do need to carry this on ask that do it via pms
  10. offtopic crap and chat removed member warned
  11. still no reason to go round calling other soul fans dog turds maybe if you just sacked giving out the abuse then maybe wouldnt get as much back anyway asking you to sack doing it on here you are just inviting trouble
  12. doing them myself now ask all to tone down the off topic crap that seem to be getting
  13. yeah motivation was to stop the stream of crap one liners
  14. heres nosmo https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ent...er_smasher.html
  15. Ian wasnt a warning was pointing out that the thread was getting off topic heavy for obvious reasons do have to watch such nothing wrong with odd joke, odd one liner etc etc question of balance if members do want to have a bit of extended banter , few jokes, talk about non-soul related stuff etc etc then its best to start or join in a thread in freebasing
  16. Mike replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
trick is to read what people have posted before posting /Micky-M...461#entry866461
  17. just a reminder that due to its nature have always had a more harder approach to offtopic in "box" than the other forums ask members to bear this in mind
  18. Mike replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
as he's credited as the writer (moonshine) then could that not be a way to track him down ? real name must be recorded somewhere for royalties etc etc yep?
  19. yep most of yours have but other members haven't been and that was why i posted ref off topic posts if any thread does start going down the road of offtopic, in jokes, one liners etc etc then mods if feel needed will post up a shout or what ever aim is to keep forums enjoyable and worthwhile
  20. the balance of off topic posts is increasing the repeated same video posts are not needed as said this thread is the same as any other if its active and worthwhile then there's no problems however if its active and all the members get when click on it is some off topic chat or repeated posts then same as any other thread it does start becoming a problem its a question of balance
  21. this is getting soft if wanna talk about sci-fi, crack jokes and all the rest then do so in freebasing
