back to Charles Mintz someone else reckons 800-1000 , was also told that I was there when a certain north wales dj grabbed one up for just a few hundred recently ...apparently:)
-
DWMick no need to apoligise, hopefully I got over the point that in no way was aimed at yourself was a "late nite/long day" post and as have been told in past that sometimes my style (?) of writing can be took the wrong way, just thought better emphasis
-
good point there Christian and as have heard and been "warned" off about certain 45s going round, reckon that it be wortwhile if anyone can list any "proven" or indeed "not-proven" 45s ...over to the floor ...
-
mental note - never post a "off top of head" price had a dig cause the actual price was nagging me, but all could find was bit background to release of a 8 track cd of unissued charles mintz uplook stuff at a guess take it this is where source for insru ? This material was presented to us by Mr. Dave Brown, musician and drummer. This material was located at UpLook Records owned by Mr. Gene Lawson. Since, "Give A Man A Break" is liked by all of his fans, a discovery of "Candy Baby" and some other material, which was never released was given to us by Mr. Dave Brown. We went to Thunder Ridge Mastering where Mr. Mike Brown, mastering engineer, digitally remixed and digitally remastered this project. We call this project "Give A Man A Break/ The Best Of Charles Mintz," which now have been perfected. Now, we bring this product to the fans of Mr. Charles B. Mintz.
-
thought it was a straight forward reissue with unreleased instru on flip ??? or is case of my ears/memory lying to me again off top of head says seen orig mintz somewhere round 800 quid value ?? also know he's done one other nice sounding one on uplook, anything else

started getting a bit of interest and a few plays again ..north west?

stumbled across the below bits about lori burton Together with Pam Sawyer, Lori Burton formed one of the better New York pop/rock songwriting teams of the 1960s, although not too many of their songs were widely known hits. Their "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore" gave the Rascals their first chart entry; "Baby Let's Wait," also done by the Rascals, gave the Royal Guardsmen a hit; Patti LaBelle & the Blue Bells did "All or Nothing"; and Prince Harold did "Forget About Me." Burton and Sawyer were briefly signed to Motown as songwriters and were one of the few (if not the only) female production teams on the New York rock scene in the mid-'60s. Burton was also a recording artist and is most known as the lead voice on the Whyte Boots' "Nightmare," one of the most accurate approximations of the Shangri-Las ever recorded. She was also a very credible blue-eyed pop-soul singer, though, with a low and sometimes raunchy voice. She began recording as a solo act for Roulette in the mid-'60s and in 1967, issued a hard-to-find album, Breakout, on Mercury. That LP was impressive, well-produced pop-soul with New York's sophisticated brand of pop-rock production, and it is unfortunate that Burton did not have the chance to develop further as a recording act in her own right. Burton and her husband, recording engineer Roy Cicala, began writing and producing together in the late '60s. Cicala became a top engineer in the industry and owner of the Record Plant (East) Studios in New York City, working on several John Lennon albums. Burton sang backup vocals on Lennon's "#9 Dream" in the mid-'70s, and recorded some tracks around that time that Lennon helped produce with Cicala. A couple of these numbers, which are poor disco-style tunes, appear on the CD packaged with Kristofer Engelhardt's book Beatles Undercover, which documents the Beatles' appearances on records by other artists

interesting post dwmick have a policy on here that don't post up illegal sites, no probs as said in past try and avoid having lengthy list of rules that no one reads, rather just point out as it happens So bits below are not aimed at you in any way, but as link was posted on here thought might as well comment, as in past such links as the last one were deleted Downloading soul tracks is bit grey area at times but the two sites posted show just what the extremes are first one has few interesting tracks that maybe couldn't hear elsewhere at the time of pushing them up interesting and enjoyable second one has 10,000 tracks..yep 10,000 tracks, no words, no choice, no category, all available for direct downloading, the majority seem to be of high quality mp3s and real audio and already available on offical cds spot the difference ? end of day - second site will kill it for all of us, soul fans online, websites and so on as far as online audio is concerned, open public direct downloading of 10000 high quality music tracks ??? bottom line is its illegal, it's cheating the artists out of royalites (sure the current system is not perfect but its better than nought), it hurts the soul record/cd labels such as grapevine kent etc etc, and .........ok could rant on, but can't be arsed have heard all the tired old arguments such as "spreading the faith" " good research" and they still dont cut it Anyway as posted thought throw up recent news read other day as well (see below) for food for thought how many of our soul artist legends will benefit from this now ? post edited a few times as too hasty with that submit button -

Cheers for comments Janine and Mr 0 Have to say its a team thing as in myself and Kolla deserve equal share of the blame Read somewhere other day, someone saying something like, "have given up trying to have a aim/policy for site as in the end its the members and how they use it that make it what it is " which to me sort of says it all Think site has reached seven year point this or next month - which is a bit scary but end of day as its always been a "user based" site, its the people who have "used " it who imo deserve the shout ... and ultimately are responsible for it still knocking around Was planning some article/thing about 7 year point , time allowing will throw up something thanks mike

for the stylists out there noticed other day that mentioned below b an q have upgraded their £8.99 plastic tool boxes - which hold about 200 45s - they have replaced the plastic hinges/lock bits with metal fittings but still at same price! on more trad lines, have pasted a past discussion below, since then been told mr blue max also does highly recommended custom ones Just some recordcase info was posted up in old forums but as thought may be usefull cause they are going posted here Posted by Marty: Apr 17 2003, 11:20 PM I've got a great case for my LP's but I'm having a bugger of a time trying to find something to store 100+ 7"s. Does anyone have any suggestions on name brands or web sites with good cases? Thank you Marty the Mod Posted by mike-h: Apr 20 2003, 09:14 AM Can't help with a url, or brand names. As most 45s cases seem to be done by friend of friends in garden sheds Maybe following option not for the stylists , but def one for those who think "hang on instead of paying 40 quid, could get some more vinyl for that". Check out b and q, have toolboxes that can hold about 200 45s with no modifications, available in various shades of plastic, complete with handle, place for locks and handy compartmenta All somewhere around 8 quid!! Ok not as streetsmart as these records bags or flight cases and do open up the possibilities of getting mistaken as the washing machine repair man, but do the job and a cheap option for at home storage. If after bit more style, halfords do metal style ones, similar size for a few quid more Other option is Mattlan have cosmetic cases which hold 50+ 45s , flight case, leopard skin and more design, complete with combination lock and also a mirror! These do the job fairly well and give hours of entertainment to some when notice its true origns! As the "washing machine mechanic" look may not be everyones fav, anyone post up any contacts?? I've got two - one holds about 600 and the other about 150. The 150 case came from a shop in Brighton, name escapes me, they seem to make them to order. It's a great case, handy size and very strong. via contact us Company Mark Bicknell DJ Services Location Manchester Comments Luton Spin - In Reply To James. Yes it was The Dynamics - I Need Your Love B/W Love Me on RCA Victor - fantastic double header as first played via Butch aka Mark Dobson a few years ago i think, infact i bought mine from him several years ago for £75.00, hard to value such a quality record but i've seen it for around £200.00 plus recently could be a little more, white demo's seem to be eaiser to find over the black stock issue copies which i've only seen in Tim Brown's play box, but i'm sure they are out there but very rare. Hope this helps, and well done to Sean and Pete Luton was fantastic, superb infact. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
