Another upcoming classic vinyl lp reissue from Ace Records via their 70s imprint Southbound Fatback - Let's Do It Again - Southbound - Sew 168 Release date 28 June 2024 Release notes Formed by drummer Bill Curtis in 1970 the Fatback Band signed to Perception Records who issued this debut album in America in 1972. Recorded at Blue Rock Studio in New York, “Let’s Do It Again” featuring the soon to be patented Fatback sound, the album included originals like ‘Street Dance’ – that became a Billboard R&B hit in 1973 – ‘Free Form’, ‘Take A Ride (On The Soul Train)’ , ‘Give Me One More Chance’, ‘Goin’ To See My Baby’ and the title track. There were also cover versions of Jimmy Webb’s ‘Wichita Lineman’, David Gates ‘Baby I’m A Want You’ and the evergreen ‘Green Green Grass Of Home’. “Let’s Do It Again” has been out of print for many years and Ace are delighted to be reissuing it on vinyl - with the full cooperation of Fatback founder Bill Curtis. Kent and BGP’s remit were both much more defined by certain eras and genres of black American music than they are. Southbound was intended as a place to showcase the 1970s repertoire that Ace had acquired via the purchase of New York’s Spring label. Nowadays you can find a great deal more modern-crossover soul on Kent, and 70s/80s soul and dance on BGP, than in 1989. The definitive collection of the legendary song-writing trio Holland-Dozier-Holland 68 tracks taken from the period between 1969-1977 when the trio had started labels Hot Wax, Invictus And Music Merchant Extensive liner notes by Stuart Cosgrove known for his award-winning Soul Trilogy Detroit 67: the Year That Changed Soul, Memphis 68: The Tragedy of Southern Soul and Harlem 69: the Future of Soul. Holland, Dozier and Holland are arguably the greatest songwriters ever. More prolific than Lennon and McCartney, they shaped “the Sound of Young America” and propelled the Motown sound in the mid-1960s into a creative stratosphere unmatched by any other independent music label. Their trademark was catchy teenage love songs delivered energetically by previously unknown Detroit groups like The Supremes, the Four Tops, Martha & the Vandellas & Marvin Gaye. Although synonymous with Berry Gordy’s Motown, it was their departure from Motown after a stand-off strike in 1967 and a brutal legal battle that led them to run their own group of labels, Invictus, Hot Wax and Music Merchant. This compilation is a definitive look at this period in history, exploring how H-D-H, under a new guise ‘The `Creative Corporation’, drove the next generation of soul music in a myriad of different ways, towards funk, underground disco and jazz. One of their major ambitions when the doors to Invictus first opened was to find the same conveyer belt creativity that had underpinned Motown and find acts that could replicate the national success of the Four Tops, the Supremes and Marvin Gaye. The fact that they partially succeeded is no minor achievement. Depicted by author Stuart Cosgrove who wrote the award-winning Soul Trilogy, a series of books on soul music and social change – Detroit 67: the Year That Changed Soul, Memphis 68: The Tragedy of Southern Soul which won the Penderyn Prize, as Music Book of the Year in 2018, and Harlem 69: the Future of Soul. Ok people as have a bit more time available now to spend on the admin side of things on here, read the below... One thing always felt needed an improvement on here, is letting people know what's going on or/and how things work and the thinking behind things/actions/decisions Plan is as 'admin' things happen will try and make a note in this topic just to inform and try and keep all members aware of everything soul source related on the admin and moderation side To get things going a couple of member related admin tasks that were carried out Active/inactive members We do close accounts after 3 years inactivity but as just done we can reopen once aware that the member has logged in again (a monthly check) as long as its within a year of the closure, as we delete after 4 years This is done as per data protection/privacy concerns, we are signed up to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under the Data Protection Act 2018. and do follow their UK GDPR guidance Spam Members/Bots - Getting Cleverer There is an increase in the amount of posts by spam bots/members who appear to be getting cleverer all the time both thru ai and manual posting methods. sometimes hard to spot as they do quote other members posts in what at first seems a normal way but once you look at things deeper you can see what they are up to If you do notice that a post by a new member has gone missing then there is a good chance that the member has been marked by us the site as a 'spammer' which will then automatically delete all the spammers content and closes the account Ok that's about it for now as said will try and keep this 'admin' related topic both informative and worthwhile As always if you do have any q's on anything admin/moderation related you are always more than welcome to shout them up via comments, new topics or if rather pm me or any of the team team link https://www.soul-source.co.uk/staff/ atb mike
