.. I've got to hold my (small-ish..) hands up to doing JUST THAT !! Well.. since the late 90's I have - so you could say, the past TEN YEARS.. Always been meticulous in 'databasing' & itemising any 'new arrivals' - and in even more detail during my Turntable Records list' days. I think it stemmed from NEVER having the type of memory required NOT to have to write things down. Proudly, STILL in possession of ALL my notebooks (and in better condition than the majority of me discs !!) They actually make very interesting reading 20 or 30 plus years down the line.. Full of all sorts of facts and things that are absolutely USELESS unless you are.. One of us 'got it REEEEAL bad' Soulies It rocks my boat and satisfies my 'need' for an accurate 'history' of my 'vinyl ventures'. To the original question.. Well - If not consumed by vinyl mania I wouldn't have had to renege on the purchase of Nectar Island, for starters !! I'll let YOUR imaginations dictate how the rest of my 'No Records Allowed' world would've panned out I'm fortunate in that (although not since 2003) my wife is stupid about HER vinyl too !! Having an enviable (not large.. 150 to 175ish) collection of 45's herself. A couple of examples of her box contents being Betty Wilson (Dayco) at £280 cost (to me !!) 13 years ago, now. Bill Bush's 'I'm Waiting' - under a £100 - and BEFORE we were approached at Cleggy W'ender 2003 by an 'excited' Scottish Soulie.. As he eagerly spewed the sentence of 'Have a listen to this Cover Up' !! Which we duly did.. Looked at each other - my look saying 'that sounds very familiar' !?! Whilst my wife's look transformed immediately into spoken word.. Thus: 'Oh, Bill Bush is covered up' ??. The look on the lad's face (don't remember his name - probably better that I can't) with his next words being 'How do YOU know the title !??! 'And Artist' ?? I think HE thought he was being clever when (smirking..) he said 'Bet you don't know the label, though' !! Didn't anybody ever tell him ?? about the relationship between 'Red Rags' and 'Bulls' ??. Needless to say - he soon 'cowered' away (wishing he'd never bothered in the first place, no doubt - defo ruined HIS weekend ) as my wife, veeeery nonchalantly responded with. 'What ?? you mean Ronn' ?? - I got mine nearly THREE YEARS AGO !! She favours 'CLASS'.. 'FEMALE' (NOT the girly, Ronettes type 'screeching' - more, well..) Betty Wilson / Liz Verdi / Marion Stewart / LaReine Lamaar type vocals (PLUS an original poster advertising the LL 45 upon it's release !! Hmph.. ). She possesses that 'keen' an ear for a 'CLASS' tune. She invested in the likes of (and VERY early on.. still lots of peeps that don't even know it, even today) The Bootleggers 'Don't Count On Tomorrow'. Why do you think I MARRIED her ?? The last time we went through her little 'gems' - EVERY one of her purchases had seen an increase in their value - a few, quite substantially - in comparison to (her) the initial outlay. And talk about FUSSY !! - she MADE ME return her first copy of Liz Verdi's Columbia 45 'Think It Over..' because she heard TWO CLICKS... You think that's bad ?? The clicks were both on the RUN IN GROOVES .. More recently she rejected my (low four figure cost, to me..) supposed 'SUPRISE' & 'GIFT' for her.. The last remaining 'outstanding' 45 from her original wants list. Because (she claimed) it sounded 'off-centre' in the early few bars of the discs intro.. So she would rather wait for a BETTER COPY !!!!! The only PLUS to her rejection being that I am now the proud owner of a Bad Weather Inc. 'I Never Never Knew'. At least ONE of us was happy . Anyway - I digress - she is 'aware' of the sorts of sums spent over the years but, ever since she clocked the £20K+ figure - for the FIRST quarter of that year.. she chooses to NOT want to know 'exact' amounts. Yep, you're dead right - JUST AS WELL, too !! (An EXTREEEEEEMLY poor - for MORE reasons than one..) Fingers

Any chance of someone posting a sound file for the benefit of us un-initiated, please ???? Anything I've heard from this group - even their doowoppy early ditties - has appealed to me. After a discussion about said 45 with A.N.Other at Burnley's Kestrel Suite 'Niter, on Saturday, I'm intrigued to hear this outing. People that DO know of it / have it speak ONLY very highly of it.. Just to make me feel, even MORE, that I'm MISSING OUT !! & not privvy to an invite to this 'party'.. Fingers..

But I'm a mere 'Babe In Arms' - and got a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go before I get anywhere NEAR you's guys' level !! No - seriously, your very valid input (not YOU, Mace.. I just KNEW you'd get in there SOMEHOW..)has served extremely useful. I think - with the pm's received also - I've enough of what I need to feel confident of having a 'good' idea as to a fair, and a reflective view to things such as 'price band', it's potential 'scarcity' and an idea of the 'demand'factor. Rob.. What a Top Geezer I harbour many fond memories of shared decking honours / DJ line-up's with him (along with a very youthful Hammy, and The GREATEST ever DJ.. In my book, at any rate.. Nev Wherry, plus Tony Warot, Kev Draper & Smudge, usually..) - during the late 70's & early 80's - at various (east anglian located) venues. And he's the ONLY person that I've ever spent a £1000 with.. for stuff I found in a (torn !!) PLASTIC CARRIER BAG he had amongst his (three billion, trillion, thousand..) sales boxes !! It's TRUE !! - and nobody was more suprised than me !! - Cleggy weekender, last year, it was I stopped looking after that Glad , given the potential outcome, that Rob has 'escaped' with only superficial 'wounds'.. Just to reiterate Joan's comment - it's unequivocal.. The promoter's of U.S.O.S. do NOT condone this type of 45 & it certainly is not the 'norm' at their functions. In fact.. I saw Kev chokin' on his beer as it came on - then quickly knock back 14 SHOTS IN A ROW !! Martyn was quickly making the rounds of the attended - asking if anyone had a gun.. And poor Sharon was holding her hands aloft & loudly proclaiming 'I didn't book him' !! So.. no worries Simon, you can safely head on down to this brilliant night of Soul - but, I feel it only fair to warn you BEFORE you set off on the journey - they won't be able to satisfy your 'slippery' request.. Okay - votes are in and counted.. From the 68 that cast, a resounding 51 (75%) majority has said DEFINATELY NOT TO BE PLAYED AT A SOUL VENUE.. And have quickly destined my b'day gift to forever languish in a cold, dark, corner of the cupboard in my record room.. Only ever to see the light of day again once the time capsule (it now calls 'home') is discovered by some far-off generation. I've really enjoyed the postings on here - the ASBO poster & Imber's first post being the two to make me guffaw the loudest. Hopefully others have derived some modicum of enjoyment & laughter too. I'm pleased to announce that Soul Police have decided not to send me to HMP Nonsoulie - and, instead, conveyed a sentence of 'probation', whereby I am ONLY allowed at future Soul Music promotions if wearing the handcuffs they provided.. And ONLY allowed to DJ if & when accompanied by a member of the said Soul Police - who will 'police' my selections before allowing them turntable experience. Time to put this to bed, now.. Okay.. Last night at the 'Excellent' United Sound Of Soul, I played (NOT Duffy, Joan & Sandi !! ) the May (??) 2009 release of - what I consider to be a 'Kicking', and by FAR superior, version to (That bird with the 'rrrreaaaaally grates on yer nerves' voice) Duffy's 'Mercy' - by THE THIRD DEGREE. It's the second time I've played it out.. The first time being at the last Bank Holiday weekend's Lifeline All dayer in Nott's - on the Sunday. Obviously neither Joan or Sandi agreed with it's output - both insisting it is, actually, Duffy !! Hmph !! I don't mind in the slightest - and welcome opposing views - if there's a song I like but another person doesn't.. 'It would be a boring... blah, blah' and all that, but I'm curious to know what others feel. So... Cast your votes NOW - and may you all have MERCY on me.. Fingers..
