Open your ears and your minds
thing is...there must be lots of great allnighter tunes at affordable prices...its just they probably dont get played. How can a DJ stand out from the crowd (and yes there is a crowd of DJ's out there) by playing affordable records.....

Co72/23 Annual Fundraising Event
Ive been asked what is 'hybrid' about it... well let me explain..it really is a simple and exciting concept With the invaluable help from the East Midlands connection and the 'trusty' backing of the Follow The Music Not the Crowd gang we have managed to put together a package we think is unique and worthy of such a long standing and revered occasion Historically its been a long running fundraising event first established in 2008 at the Ryan Hall in Tunstall...... over the years ...raising well nigh on £35000 from its generous patrons More details to follow but make a 'placeholder' in your diaries for this new/improved format . A format to savour !!! *A hybrid of those sounds of 'today' delivered with aplomb from the firmly established FTMNTC team and guests.. widely acknowledged as delivering challenging and adventurous playlists whilst also attracting some of the most forward thinking and adventurous DJ's around..... *Mixed in expertly with those fabulous sounds from that bygone era as classmates of 72 we all adored--- all played by a group of chaps who were actually there and have that recall of those sounds from back in the day So a 10hrs mix of the past and present...packaged in a long established charity fundraiser something to look forward to !!!

Co72/23 Annual Fundraising Event
Right its just a few weeks to go ....best get the game face on !! Firstly I just want to put into context the whole CO72/CO23 event/happening This really isn't just ANY 'reunion' event This isn't is a reunion/anniversary type event.. where the money goes into the bulging pockets of the promoters as they greet you with a beaming smile at the door.(.Turkey teeth and all 🙂 (so don't be confused ) YEAH you know the ones ******** ALL PROFITS GO TO CHARITY **************** Everyone involved in this event is offering their valuable services for free....to maximise the charitable contributions CO72 itself has been in existence for many years...quietly going about its business of donating to charities and having a 'whale' of a time in the process !! The ORIGINAL and best annual 'era' event raising nearly £35,000 for charity since 2008 Your £10 entrance goes to charity guaranteed !!!! Be safe and secure in the thought...your generosity will be making a difference !! we wont have your pants down !!!!

..It was a real joy as an enthusiast to hear such a range of music , constantly oozing quality..never dipping below a high bar that is set... I had warned prospective attendees , dont be late , we dont do warm up spots....and so it was...Deans first record (one of Otis Leavills on Dakar) at 7.02pm was in my very humble opinion gonna stand up well with anything else played during the whole night A vibrant club house welcomed us all and it was a real good vibe down at the Cricket Club on Saturday night Next up down there for us in October is the hybrid CO23/CO72 annual fundraiser for charity....now in its 15th year and boasting a fabulous total of near on £35k in charity donations since its inception ..with a new and improved format to stimulate music variety ...not to be missed...always a great social day out Then Mark Dobson another local lad is making a welcome return to our decks in November 🙂

IT'S A FIRST !!! ...that Dean ,Tim. James and have DJ'd together for us at FTMNTC....'local boys come good' is certainly a great description !! there is more than a sniff of curiosity as we 'smash' through the 2000 views barrier on here !! The 'chaps' I'm sure will bring a fresh and dynamic selection of music for us......as they share their tastes ''Music is the stake in the ground — ‘this is who I am' and this is 'what I like'' There's an 'air of excitement' as we near our end of summer event here at Congleton Cricket Club. Exceptional late Summer weather has enabled the grounds to be a a full and lush shade of green... You will notice a more than just a tenuous link as we prepare for Saturdays musical experience,,whereby we can look forward to an evening appealing to the senses with the lush sounds of our beloved music Try and get their early...we start at 7pm.....No really ...Dean will be up and running at 7pm.......we dont do warm up slots here I'm afraid...............

Again had one or two asking....and its a valid point YES the bar accepts BOTH cash and card payments for your convenience This is important because some venues I've heard of either accept cash only or card only.... Congleton Cricket Club accept both !!!!

Not really a place to go to worship DJ's Not really a place to go to worship large car parks Not really a place to go to worship cheap ale Not really a place to go to worship cavernous ballrooms Not really a place to go to worship past glories from half a century ago Not really a place to go to be with masses and masses of people It is a place to go to enjoy/enthuse the music It is a place to go to to be with others who enjoy/enthuse about the music In short ...IT IS A PLACE TO GO WHERE THE GROWN UPS GO !!!

Musically no restrictions as per norm and expect the 'usual suspects' to be playing the sounds and on this occasion ....along with THREE yes THREE !!! guest record selectors to really mix up the offering We intend this to be very social...and our regulars will tell you .. we don't take ourselves very seriously..but we DO enjoy the music. If you're looking for a nostalgia event where you can be transported back to the halycon days of the Wheel, Torch, Wigan, Mecca etc... then this aint for you......besides they tell me the toilets are too clean nowadays......!!!! SPREAD THE WORD !! ...we going where the 'grown ups' go !!

When did it become about rarity?
Just breaking this down a bit....we tending to go off on a wholly (not HOLY) dj angle...which i dont think the OP was aiming for (could be wrong ) **I've heard so many punters from the wheel and torch era say that it was never about rarity, and reference many common records and new releases that were played. Yes indeed PUNTERS in general weren't bothered....any collectors took more of an interest...but really...there was MUCH MORE going on at an allnighter...dont forget we were 16 ffs.....................yeah exactly !! **When did rarity or perhaps exclusivity become of paramount importance in terms of northern soul? This is more subjective imo. I would think it was when people's reason for going to an allnighter was to hear new sounds and had started collecting seriously which leads us to today and we all old and wrinkly and have opinions..and the only reason we go out is the 'music.'..thats the 'buzz !!...the odd few go out to take photos but that doesn't effect the point in question... The only 'hit' we've got left is either being seen with loadsa people OR hearing some music which is fresh and ideally new/forgotten or whatever floats ya boat ...I think this leads us on to another question which links to the OP's ego comment Do we REALLY need to be obsessed with price/rarity...is it creating an elite group who are seen as 'leaders' and put bums on seats for promoters ...where in actual fact we could (not saying we should) consolidate and and be inclusive for everyone ..........buck the trend and just play some 'nice records' Imagine the other 99.9% of the population looking in from the outside and thinking ffs they're only records

When did it become about rarity?
Not really..from my experience anyway. Whilst there was always a 'collecting culture' well that had to be ..otherwise we wouldn't be here now....BUT and this is my experience ..others may differ....there was a hell of a lot MORE going on than the clamour to have the most expensive or should i say exclusive record amongst mass hordes of other willy wavers.........whilst nowadays it seems focussed on the records and ownership thereof There was always the expensive records..even then and before.....as is now......but the subtle difference I think is how much importance is placed upon them I'm sure people will remember...back then there were a lot of people that din't really care about buying/collecting..indeed some that didn't like the music !!! What were they doing there then...i hear people say ? 🙂 🙂...thats a measure of the scene exclusivity NOT record exclusivity !! from the era I think Geese is getting at the fact its becoming too anal...and will end up eating itself with an ever diminishing focus on other things(whatever that may be 🙂 ) rather than records...and an increasing focus on a DJ culture...not a social or music culture So not an attack on collector/dj search and procurement of expensive/exclusive records...more a 'has it really got to be so anal..it was never thus so (in my experience).....????????????? Someone once told me what do you call a DJ who has forgotten to bring his his record box ? ...a none paying punter !! 🙂
