Not your regular names 'trotted out' every week at the local pub/club ...But and yes a But with a capitol B ...these lads are masters of the craft ...the craft of unearthing :- long since forgotten... maybe never remembered... .personal faves that will delight us all...... but for sure....they will give us a musical journey to savour Some of North Staffs finest .. mixing and matching an altogether smorgasbord of tunes.... If you're an enthusiast ..try not to miss this ...!!!

Musically no restrictions as per norm and expect the 'usual suspects' to be playing the sounds and on this occasion ....along with THREE yes THREE !!! guest record selectors to really mix up the offering We intend this to be very social...and our regulars will tell you .. we don't take ourselves very seriously..but we DO enjoy the music. If you're looking for a nostalgia event where you can be transported back to the halycon days of the Wheel, Torch, Wigan, Mecca etc... then this aint for you......besides they tell me the toilets are too clean nowadays......!!!! SPREAD THE WORD !! ...we going where the 'grown ups' go !!

A real bonus this month as we have NOW added local collector/enthusiast Dean Broadhurst.....bringing an extra diversity of thought and taste to the proceedings..... It'll be another 'musical journey' to savour thats for sure These dj/collectors will give you a real deal enthusiasts session ...PROPER

Just breaking this down a bit....we tending to go off on a wholly (not HOLY) dj angle...which i dont think the OP was aiming for (could be wrong ) **I've heard so many punters from the wheel and torch era say that it was never about rarity, and reference many common records and new releases that were played. Yes indeed PUNTERS in general weren't bothered....any collectors took more of an interest...but really...there was MUCH MORE going on at an allnighter...dont forget we were 16 ffs.....................yeah exactly !! **When did rarity or perhaps exclusivity become of paramount importance in terms of northern soul? This is more subjective imo. I would think it was when people's reason for going to an allnighter was to hear new sounds and had started collecting seriously which leads us to today and we all old and wrinkly and have opinions..and the only reason we go out is the 'music.'..thats the 'buzz !!...the odd few go out to take photos but that doesn't effect the point in question... The only 'hit' we've got left is either being seen with loadsa people OR hearing some music which is fresh and ideally new/forgotten or whatever floats ya boat ...I think this leads us on to another question which links to the OP's ego comment Do we REALLY need to be obsessed with price/rarity...is it creating an elite group who are seen as 'leaders' and put bums on seats for promoters ...where in actual fact we could (not saying we should) consolidate and and be inclusive for everyone ..........buck the trend and just play some 'nice records' Imagine the other 99.9% of the population looking in from the outside and thinking ffs they're only records

Not really..from my experience anyway. Whilst there was always a 'collecting culture' well that had to be ..otherwise we wouldn't be here now....BUT and this is my experience ..others may differ....there was a hell of a lot MORE going on than the clamour to have the most expensive or should i say exclusive record amongst mass hordes of other willy wavers.........whilst nowadays it seems focussed on the records and ownership thereof There was always the expensive records..even then and before.....as is now......but the subtle difference I think is how much importance is placed upon them I'm sure people will remember...back then there were a lot of people that din't really care about buying/collecting..indeed some that didn't like the music !!! What were they doing there then...i hear people say ? 🙂 🙂...thats a measure of the scene exclusivity NOT record exclusivity !! from the era I think Geese is getting at the fact its becoming too anal...and will end up eating itself with an ever diminishing focus on other things(whatever that may be 🙂 ) rather than records...and an increasing focus on a DJ culture...not a social or music culture So not an attack on collector/dj search and procurement of expensive/exclusive records...more a 'has it really got to be so anal..it was never thus so (in my experience).....????????????? Someone once told me what do you call a DJ who has forgotten to bring his his record box ? ...a none paying punter !! 🙂

THATS IT !! RIGHT THERE !! No really.........Its almost like the missing link !! A great addition to the nighter scene.... Outside of number 100,Oxford st....Its been a long long time since ive been to a nighter where the music matches the night and vice versa ...where the vibe, ambiance (and whatever other fancy words ya wanna use to describe your night out) and venue and occasion are as one !!! I'll stop there describing the night..you had to be there...but I;ll put things in context Yeah you can hang your hat on... 1)rare/expensive records 2)fabulous cavernous ballrooms 3) finely polished dancefloors 4) professionally kitted out and well stocked bars 5)Geometrically square venues...:-) ...yeah I know 🙂 But give you head a wobble it aint all about that For me in 2023....i want summat a little different....and the Gathering offered that This venue has been on the tip of the tongue for a few years now....WELL DONE to Geese, Jim and Luci for grasping the nettle and running with this !!! . .This will have longevity......a marketing pro would say find a gap in the market...this is a gap...a deep down 'underground' nighter ...memories of 60's/70's city centre clubs....run by enthusiastic people who know what direction they wanna go in......................... If this was City Centre Manc/Brum/London/ Newcastle etc etc this would be grabbing ALL the headlines I really enjoyed it...breath of fresh air....a much needed dose of seediness thats missing in todays ultra clean.ultra safe environment. Almost a throwback to those days where there weren't many rules....remember them? ...yeah exactly...!!!!! If you need to be 'led' on your night out...then you wont be reading this anyway If you are one that grabs your night out 'by the balls' then this is for you and you wont miss the next etc !!!! As an aside ...I had a fascinating conversation with the 'guys' that run the venue...about Hanley nightlife from 50 odd yrs ago ( yep am that old) !! and how its evolved..one thing struck me...they are FULLY behind this venture..they want this to succeed and it seems to me a collaboration is building here....that is bound for success..watch this 'fly now' All in all very pleasant....VERY pleasant indeed !!! Am a sucker for pleasantness !!

5 Star Nearly 3000 views This allnighter ticked all the boxes..from a busy and vibrant record selling marketplace to an 'abfab' sound system shaking the rafters !!! A keen and enthusiastic crowd poured in from the off !! ...clearly intent on a good time.... Regulars and not so regulars mixing and enjoying what must be one of those MUST GO big room allnighters !!!! Musically twas an allnighter selection through and through....delivered with vigour from enthusiastic DJ's keen to get a 'vibe' going !!! There aren't many of these iconic venues left....and you can almost 'feel' the history in here.....many a tale to be told for sure !!!

So a few hrs to go the sun's shining..its a real picture postcard venue when the weather is like this..... ...what to expect ? A real smorgasbord musically !!!! Yeah a few events announce proudly they play rare and underplayed...yeah you've seen them we all know who they are :_) BUT is that it ?? the sum total ??? all bloody night.....give us a break !!!. Tonight here at FTMNTC - you will hear rare and underplayed you will hear rarely played and forgotten you will hear newer sounds and not so new sounds you will hear a variety of genres.... far be it from us to categorise you will hear one offs and prev unreleased records you will hear album only tracks along with diff version tracks you will hear the odd classic you will hear.....loads of records.... !!! No ones ever accused us of a lack of variety here at FTMNTC If your enthusiastic about your music...then you've come to the right place Coz we are !!!
